Inovev predicts sales of 75 000 et 100 000 per year for the new Hyundai Kona
The Korean manufacturer Hyundai has unveiled its segment B SUV, the Kona, which is expected to gradually replace the B-segment MPV, the iX20, whose origins go back to 2010. Indeed, manufacturers are increasingly replacing their B segment compact MPVs by B segment SUVs, in response to the  sharply declining demand for  compact MPVs and the strongly  growing  demand for compact SUVs.

Thus, we saw Renault replace the Modus by the Captur SUV, Opel replace the Meriva by the CrosslandSUV,or Citroën replace the C3 Picasso by the C3 Aircross SUV . Peugeot replaced its 207 estate with the 2008  and Seat replaced its Altea with the Ateca SUV. Hyundai is  following  the same logic.

The new Kona, considering  its dimensions (length: 4.16m), competes directly with the Renault Captur (4,12m), Peugeot 2008 (4,16m) and Nissan Juke (4,14m). It measures 4cm more than a Hyundai iX 20 and 32cm less than a Hyundai Tucson.

The engines of the Kona are the following: a 3-cylinder gasoline 1.0 / 120hp, a 4 cylinders gasoline  1.6 / 177hp and a diesel  1.6 of 115hp and 135hp.

For now, the Kona is made in Korea but may eventually replace the iX20 at the Hyundai site in Nosovice (Czech Republic). Inovev expects a volume of 75,000 to 100,000 sales a year in Europe. In Korea, Hyundai plans to sell 50,000 Kona a year.
