Renault sells its first hybrid models as of end 2019
Renault was one of the first major manufacturers to launch the mass production of electric vehicles in the early 2010s. Electrical models currently sold by the French manufacturer are Zoe and Kangoo ZE. Renault will sell nearly 50,000 units in total in 2018.

Renault was not at all interested in the market for hybrid vehicles (rechargeable or not) until last year, but since the acquisition of Mitsubishi by the Renault-Nissan group, the French manufacturer has adapted its strategy. Indeed, Mitsubishi is successful with the Outlander plug-in hybrid (nearly 40,000 sold in 2018). In addition, the demise of diesel in Europe requires new solutions, and hybrid technology can be a first step before that of 100% electric.

Renault will launch a Clio hybrid at the end of 2019, a plug-in hybrid Captur in 2020, a plug-in Hybrid Kadjar in 2021 and a plug-in Hybrid Mégane in 2022. These future-generation models will use the same original 1600cc Nissan engine to which an original Nissan electric motor will be added. The origin of this technology, inspired by that of Mitsubishi, indicates that some Nissan models, including the future Qashqai, will also be assigned this type of engine.

This is a brand new market for Renault. Inovev nevertheless expects a sales volume of 15% HEV-PHEV at the end of the 2020-2025 period for all sales of the Renault brand.
