Inovev forecasts 50,000 units per year of the new Hyundai Ioniq 6
Unveiled a year and a half after the Ioniq 5 sedan, the large sedan Hyundai Ioniq 6 now represents the top of the range of battery electric cars from the Korean carmaker. Unlike most carmakers who seek to give their products an identifiable design resemblance, Hyundai gives to each model of the Ioniq range its own style. The Ioniq 6 takes the concept even further, becoming the antithesis of the Ioniq 5. The right-angle styling of the Ioniq 5 gives way to a “bubbling" style on the Ioniq 6, getting close to the style of the Mercedes EQE and EQS. The Ioniq 6 takes up the principles of the "Streamliner" design of the 1930s, which was used at the time on locomotives and then on automobiles.

Based on the e-GMP platform used by both Hyundai and Kia, the Ioniq 6 stretches 4.85m in length, a size comparable to a Mercedes E-Class, halfway between a Tesla Model 3 and a Tesla Model S.

The battery mounted on the Ioniq 6 would be 58 kWh or 77.5 kWh, which seems a bit weak for a high-end model of this size. A Mercedes EQE for example has a 90 kWh battery. Despite this, Hyundai announces a range of 500 km for the Ioniq 6, thanks to the aerodynamic design, in contrary of the Ioniq 7, which will be a large SUV with a very square style, closer to a Volvo XC90 than of an Ioniq 6.

The Ioniq 6 will be produced in Korea like all Ioniq models. Inovev expects 50,000 units per year, compared to the 75,000 units per year of the Ioniq 5 (67,000 units sold in 2021) which does not compete the Ioniq (48,000 units sold in 2021).
