The manufacturers most affected by the drop in volumes in the USA over the first 8 months of 2022
The US automotive market is having a mediocre year in 2022, as it fell 14.5% over the first eight months of the year compared to the same period of 2021 (+1.7% compared to 2020 and -19.1% compared to 2019), a drop comparable to that recorded in Europe (29 countries).

Total registrations in the USA did not exceed 9.14 million light vehicles (PC+LCV = European segmentation) over the first eight months of 2022, compared to 10.69 million units over the first eight months of 2021.

Which manufacturers were the most impacted on the US market during this period?

Japanese brands were the hardest hit, with Honda losing 40% of its sales, Nissan down 32%, Mazda down 23%, Toyota down 18% and Subaru down 16%.

The German Volkswagen group is also very impacted by losing 22% of its sales, as well as Volvo (-26%) belonging to the Chinese group Geely and Jaguar Land Rover (-40%) belonging to the Indian group Tata Motors.

American manufacturers are less affected: GM (-12%), Chrysler (-13%) and especially Ford, which only lost 0.2% of its sales.

The Korean group Hyundai-Kia (-9%) is holding up well, thanks to a renewed and well-adapted range, in the same way as BMW (-7%) and above all Mercedes, which has managed to improve its sales volume (+10%).

But it is above all Tesla (+90%) that is progressing.

And at the same time new brands are appearing on the US market, such as Rivian, Polestar, Karma and Lucid. But these new brands currently only represent 0.2% of the US market.
