In 2017, 69% of Japanese production was made outside of Japan
- In 2017, out of a global production of 96.3 million passenger cars and light-commercial vehicles (PC + LCVs), Japanese OEMs manufactured 28.1 million units, or 29% of global production. Of this total, 8.8 million light vehicles, or 31% of Japanese production, were produced in Japan (which has been steadily declining since the 1990s), while 19.3 million vehicles accounting for 69% of total Japanese production were made outside of Japan, including China (4.4 million), the United States (3.6 million), India (2.1 million), Thailand (1.4 million) , Mexico (1.3 million), Indonesia (1.1 million), Canada (1 million). Europe including Turkey accounted for 1.8 million units. South America accounted for 0.5 million units.
- In 2017, Toyota / Lexus manufactured 35% of its vehicles in Japan and 65% outside Japan. Nissan / Infiniti manufactured only 18% of its vehicles in Japan and 82% outside of Japan. Honda made only 16% of its vehicles in Japan and 84% outside of Japan. Suzuki made 30% of its vehicles in Japan and 70% outside Japan.
- In contrast, Mazda manufactured 60% of its vehicles in Japan and 40% outside Japan. Mitsubishi manufactured 48% of its vehicles in Japan and 52% outside of Japan. Subaru made 66% of its vehicles in Japan and 34% outside of Japan. Finally, Daihatsu made 60% of its vehicles in Japan and 40% outside Japan.

- For the first time in its history, the PSA group sold more than 2 million vehicles in the first half of 2018, which could mean a volume close to 4 million units for the full year, thus very close to Fiat-Chrysler Group volumes. The PSA group sold 2.18 million vehicles in the first six months of 2018 (+ 38% compared to the first six months of 2017) thanks to the consolidation of Opel / Vauxhall since August 2017. PSA group sales break down as follows: 1,005,676 units of Peugeot brand, 572,561 of Citroën brand, 571,832 Opel / Vauxhall brand and 31,754 DS brand.
The PSA group sales increased especially in Europe -+61,55%-(the acquisition of Opel / Vauxhall strengthened Europe's share of PSA's worldwide sales). In China, PSA sales rose 6.9% after a sharp decline last year, but its sales in Iran are stalling (-18.6%) because of the threats of the US administration on companies that do not respect their embargo in this country.
The PSA group sales increased especially in Europe -+61,55%-(the acquisition of Opel / Vauxhall strengthened Europe's share of PSA's worldwide sales). - The results of PSA in the second half of 2018 will indeed be conditioned by the strategy the company will adopt in face of the risks of American sanctions.
