SUV Sales Volumes in China, Europe, and the USA
- Details
SUV Sales Volumes in China, Europe, and the USA
- The SUV market has been growing steadily since 2010. The volume of global sales has increased from 6 million units in 2009 to 24 million in 2017, including 10 million units in China (the world's largest SUV market), 6 million in the United States and 4 million in Europe.
- The global SUV market will well exceed 25 million units in 2018 and could reach 30 million units in 2020.
- Manufacturers' offerings in this category of vehicles are steadily increasing, both in North America (where these vehicles thrived first), in Europe a little later, and in China today.
- The phenomenon is so pervasive that in the United States, some manufacturers (such as Ford or Chrysler) have decided to focus on SUV, and even to abandon sedans and minivans. The SUV market is indeed more profitable than that of sedans and minivans. The downside is that they are heavier and less aerodynamic, so they consume more fuel and emit more CO2.
- In Europe, SUV sales are now at 34% of the market, and even 36% in France, where segment B SUVs (Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Citroën C3 Aircross) have made it possible to extend the influence of these models. In China, SUV sales account for 40% of the market, and in the United States close to 45%.
