Inovev forecasts 25,000 units per year of the new Cupra Born
The Volkswagen group has decided to change the positioning of the Seat El Born unveiled last year, by modifying its exterior design and above all by changing its brand and name. This model will be integrated within the Cupra brand and its name will be Born and no longer El Born, which changes its positioning since the Cupra Born will become a sportiest version of the Volkswagen ID3, with which it shares the same MEB platform. The Cubra Born will therefore no longer be an entry-level version of the ID3.

Consequently, the Cupra Born will suffer less from a frontal competition with the ID3 as it will compete on another market, not really explored until now (the segment of EV sports), and its distribution could be more important than what it could have been under the Seat brand. Inovev forecasts 25,000 sales per year of Cupra Born, while its forecast for the Seat El Born did not exceed 15,000 units per year.

The Cupra Born is 6 centimetres longer than the Volkswagen ID3 and 2 centimetres lower. The front, roof and tailgate are different. It is expected to be produced at the Zwickau (Germany) plant alongside the Volkswagen ID3 and ID4, although a number of Volkswagen ID3s are now being produced at the Dresden (Germany) plant to increase the Volkswagen Group's European production capacity for electric vehicles.

The engines of the Cupra Born (110 kW and 150 kW) are the one also used by the ID3, but an additional version (170 kW) is added specifically for this model. There are three battery capacities (45 kWh, 58 kWh, 77 kWh) which in the best case allow a range of 540 kilometres according to the WLTP cycle.
