Toyota Yaris
- Toyota unveiled the fourth generation of the Yaris (B-segment sedan), which , will be manufactured in France, as the previous ones.
It should be noted that France is not the only country to manufacture the Yaris, since this model is also manufactured in Japan, China, Brazil, India and Mexico (in a different form).
It should be noted that France is not the only country to manufacture the Yaris, since this model is also manufactured in Japan, China, Brazil, India and Mexico (in a different form).
- However, France remains the leading producer of Yaris with 46% of the total production. France, for example, provides the Yaris for all European countries, while the other producing countries provide this model for their own markets.
- The new Yaris inaugurates the new TNGA-B platform, which is derived from the modular TNGA platform but is only used for B-segment models.
- Inovev expects a production volume of 250,000 Yaris IV per year at the Onnaing site. An SUV version of the Yaris is scheduled for the end of next year. It will also be manufactured at the Onnaing site.
The global market (PC + LUV) fell by 4.2% in 2019

The global market (PC + LUV) fell by 4.2% in 2019
- The global automobile market (PC + LUV) fell by 4.2% in 2019 to 88.9 million units, while it had already fallen by 0.3% in 2018 to 92.9 million units. This is the second time since 2009 that the global automotive market has declined, and it is also the largest decline in this market since 2009.
- The Chinese automobile market is the main reason of this global market drop, since this market fell by almost 10% in 2019 (-9.6% to be precise). However the slowdown in global growth, mainly due to trade tensions between the United States and China, led to the decline of most markets, except Europe and Brazil in particular.
- Inovev forecasted in 2018 that 2019 would be a difficult year and that is what happened. The year 2020 should not see the situation really improve since the forecasts for the Chinese market will be around -5% and that the American market could post a slight decrease compared to 2019.
- As for Europe, it should be impacted by the anticipated purchases made at the end of 2019 and should suffer mainly from a gloomy economic situation in Germany, which has seen the volume of its car production decrease in recent years. Brexit should also add to the difficulties of the European car market. The other countries in the rest of the world are still often recovering, some have not yet reached the bottom of sales, so it can be said that these countries will globally still decline in 2020. All in all, the global automobile market could show a fall between 2% and 3% in 2020.

Tesla produced 364,236 electric cars in 2019

Tesla produced 364,236 electric cars in 2019
- The Californian electric car maker Tesla produced 364,236 vehicles at its Fremont plant in 2019, compared to 254,530 units in 2018 (representing a 43% year-over-year increase), thereby strengthening its position of worldwide electric carmaker leader.
- This strong increase is due to the strong progress of the Model 3 sedan (segment D) which was produced in 300,000 units last year, despite a difficult start of production. Today, the plant releases 35,000 Model 3 every month.
- The carmaker's objectives, which had been set for 350,000 vehicles produced in 2019, were therefore reached, or even slightly exceeded, thanks to the success of the Model 3 sedan observed in many countries (this model has become number 1 in sales in Norway and in the Netherlands for example).
- The carmaker has announced its 2020 targets set at 500,000 sales, thanks to the marketing of the Model Y (a D-segment SUV closely derived from the Model 3) and the recently unveiled pickup Model X, as well as the start of production of the Chinese plant which will strengthen Tesla's footprint in China. For Inovev, these objectives seem realistic taking into account these new models planned for 2020. It is to remind that the Chinese Tesla plant located in Shanghai will be able to produce up to 200,000 electric cars per year from this year, which could be achieved in the 2 to 3 coming years.

Jeep Compass will start its production in Italy from March 2020
- The FCA group made important decisions a few years ago, concerning the Fiat and Jeep brands. The carmaker had decided to focus the production of SUVs under Jeep brand and to transfer part of the production of these models to Europe, to the Italian site of Melfi. The Jeep Renegade (segment B) was therefore produced first and entirely on this plant, alongside the Fiat 500X which shares its platform and its engines. At the same time, the carmaker had decided to emphasis the production of Fiat models sold in Europe around the Panda and 500, which implied the termination of the Fiat Punto and Freemont.
- These decisions is the result of a strong increase of Jeep’s influence in the FCA group European production and at the same time a decrease of Fiat’s influence.
- In 2019, the Jeep brand already represented 26% of Italian production, twice as much as Alfa-Romeo (13%) and half as much as Fiat (54%). In March 2020, FCA will add a second Jeep model on the Italian site of Melfi, alongside the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X: the Jeep Compass. It is currently made in Mexico for a worldwide distribution. From now on, the Compass sold in Europe will be produced on the Melfi site.
- The share of the Jeep brand in the Italian production will therefore increase further over the next few years. Taking into account the annual sales of Compass (72,000 units in 2018, 62,000 units in 2019), this percentage should increase to 33%. Taking the opportunity of this transfer, the Renegade and Compass models will now be available in a Plug-in Hybrid version (PHEV).

The Peugeot 3008 remained the most produced car in France in 2019
- 詳細
The Peugeot 3008 remained the most produced car in France in 2019
- The Peugeot 3008 remained the most produced car in France in 2019, for the second consecutive year. Over the past 12 months, 245,932 units of this C segment SUV have been produced at the Sochaux plant, which represents a 4.8% drop in volume compared to 2018.
- The 3008 remains on a high trend, however, but is approaching its mid-life restyling which is planned for 2020, the model having to be replaced in 2023. In addition, it has been directly challenged by the new Citroën C5 Aircross which is located on the same market and which is sold at a similar price. The C5 Aircross, which shares platform and engines with the 3008, sold more than 80,000 units for its first year of commercialization.
- Peugeot's C segment SUV is ahead of the Toyota Yaris (224,000 units produced in 2019), which suffered a 10% drop in production last year. This result are not the consequence of lower sales in Europe (the sales are stable in 2019) but are due to the decision of Toyota to stop the exportation to the United States. The Toyota Yaris marketed in North America is now produced in Mexico, and based on the Mazda 2.
- For 2020, the situation is uncertain because the Peugeot 3008 will benefit from a mid-life restyling, while the Toyota Yaris will start a new career with a completely redesigned body. The Peugeot 2008 (segment B SUV) on the other hand will no longer appear on this graph since this model is transferred to Spain.
