PSA plans to produce 120,000 electric motors in France in 2020
- The PSA group has announced that it objective to produce on the Trémeryplant (France) 120,000 electric motors named “e-GMP” in 2020 and 180,000 in 2021. This engine is dedicated to all Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) marketed in 2020 and 2021 , namely the Peugeot e-208, Peugeot e-2008, DS3 Crossback e-Tense, Opel e-Corsa, Peugeot e-Expert, Citroen e-Jumpy, Opel e-Vivaro, Peugeot e-Partner, Citroen e- Berlingo, Opel e-Combo, Opel e-Mokka, totally 11 different models.
- The European production of these 11 models, which were first marketed, in thermal version reached 1,500,000 units in 2019, which means that PSA plans to produce 8% of BEV versions in 2020 of all these 11 models and 12% in 2021.
- Inovev's forecasts on its side are more conservative with 50,000 units in 2020, 75,000 in 2021, 95,000 in 2022 and 115,000 in 2023.
- From 2024, the quantities may increase significantly with the sale of BEVs under the Fiat brand, and perhaps Alfa-Romeo, Lancia and Maserati. Compared to Renault's strategy, we can see that PSA's electric motor is intended to motorize over fifteen different models, while Renault's electric motor is only fitted to the Zoe and Kangoo.
- Remains the challenge of charging stations. They are currently probably insufficient to break the psychological barrier of potential customers. However in France, for instance, 58,000 charging points are installed at home and 79,000 charging points in companies (source: Avere France estimates). More than 90% of current recharging are done at home or at work, the use of public points remaining occasional. In addition, the French government has announced a target of 100,000 charging stations in France by 2022, which according to professionals of the automotive industry, will be difficult to reach.
