HEV and Thermal market share in Europe and China in the first quarter of 2022
- The market share of non-plug-in hybrid (HEV-Full) passenger cars in Europe continues to grow, rising from 4% in 2020 to 6% in 2021 and 8% in the first quarter of 2022. The year should end on a penetration of 8 to 9% thanks mainly to the generalization of the hybrid on the whole Toyota range.
- The market share of non-plug-in passenger cars (HEV-Full) in China also continues to grow, but at a slower pace than in Europe, since it fell from 1.2% in 2020 to 2.4% in 2021 and 3% in the first quarter of 2022. HEV-Full even posted a share of 3.4% in March (compared to 2.5% in January and 3.2% in February). The year should end with a penetration of nearly 3.5%.
- The market share of Gasoline/Diesel/HEV-Mild (Thermal) passenger cars in Europe has been falling sharply for several years, falling from 85% in 2020 to 74% in 2021 and 71% in the first quarter of 2022. he year should therefore end with a penetration of around 70%.
- The market share of Gasoline/Diesel/HEV-Mild (Thermal) passenger cars in China is falling as sharply as that in Europe, since it fell from 93% in 2020 to 82% in 2021 and 76% in the first quarter of 2022. The year should therefore end with a penetration of approximately 75%, which also shows that the share of internal combustion cars remains even greater in China than in Europe (because the share of PHEV and HEV-Full is much lower in China than in Europe).
