Paris Motorshow 2024: Inovev forecasts 150,000 units of the new BMW 1 Series
After only five years of career, the BMW 1 Series (C-segment sedan) intensively competed by the BMW Active Tourer and BMW X1 is replaced by a new generation (code F70) which is the fourth since 2004.
 
The style remains quite close to the old model (code F40), but we notice a lower hood and a thinner grille, inspired by the "NeueKlasse" concept. This traditional competitor of the Mercedes A-Class and Audi A3 is 4 cm longer to reach 4.36 m for an unchanged wheelbase of 2.67 m. The platform is the same as the previous 1 Series, meaning the UKL platform also used by different models of the Mini brand.
 
No battery electric version (BEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) on this new 1 Series available only in five doors, but micro-hybrid engines (MHEV) in 1.5 petrol version of 170 hp and in 2.0 turbo diesel version of 163 hp. The top-of-the-range version is equipped with a four-cylinder 2.0 turbo petrol of 300 hp and an all-wheel drive.
 
Sales of the 1 Series, which peaked in the years 2008-2013, declined after the arrival of the BMW Active Tourer minivan in 2014 and after the arrival of the second generation of the BMW X1 SUV in 2015. Sales of the 1 Series fell from 225,000 units in 2013 to 175,000 in 2016, 125,000 in 2020 and 100,000 in 2023.
 
Produced at the German plant in Leipzig, the new 1 Series could be produced at 150,000 units per year by 2030. It could benefit from the withdrawal of the Mercedes A-Class, which will be ended next year.
