Moroccan passenger car production increased by 3.4% in the first half of 2019
- Moroccan passenger car production increased by 3.4% in the first half of 2019, while it increased by 2.3% over the whole of 2018, a slow growth rate due to the ageing of the Dacia Lodgy and Dokker.
- These two models did not meet Renault-Nissan’s objectives, since sales are half as much as the manufacturer had hoped, i.e 150,000 sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in 2018. Renault has responded by steadily increasing the production volume of Sandero, in Tangiers, the same plant as the Lodgy and Dokker, while reducing the production volume of Sandero in the Romanian plant in Pitesti. Today, the Sandero accounts for nearly half of the production volume observed at the Tangier site. However, the Lodgy and Dokker should be renewed in 2020.
- Another much older production site, Casablanca, also produces Sanderos, and Logans for the local market. In 2018, this site manufactured 80,000 cars.
- The third and most recent Moroccan production site has just started its activity this summer. This is the Kenitra site, which, unlike the other two, is a PSA site that produces the new generation of Peugeot 208s, and will also produce the new generation of Peugeot 301s and Citroën C-Elysée next year, which will be stopped at the Vigo site in Spain when the 2008 Peugeot arrives there.Moroccan automotive production is therefore expected to continue to increase in the coming years, rapidly reaching 500,000 units per year.

US passenger car production fell by 2.2% in the first half of 2019
- 说明
US passenger car production fell by 2.2% in the first half of 2019
- US passenger car production according to the European definition (i.e. including SUVs and minivans) fell by 2.2% in the first half of 2019, whereas it had already fallen by 1.7% over the whole of 2018 and by 7.8% over the whole of 2017. These sub-standard performances are mainly due to the decline in deliveries of cars manufactured in the USA and exported mainly to Canada, Mexico, China and even Europe, following the decline in world markets in 2018, which worsened in 2019. The US market managed to remain stable over the same period.
- The United States exports mainly German cars (Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes), particularly to China, where taxes on imported cars have increased significantly, in response to the increase in taxes on Chinese products imported into the United States. The trade war between the United States and China has therefore had as its first victims the German cars produced in the United States...
- Given that the US market is likely to decline in the coming years, due to the rise in car prices due to the rise in raw material prices, another consequence of the trade war between China and the United States, and due to a downward cycle following an eight-year upward cycle, production volume is expected to decline in the coming years. Donald Trump's proposals for relocations to the USA have had little impact, since the volume of US production remains lower in 2017, 2018 and 2019 than in 2015 and 2016.

The Peugeot Product Plan (2020-2023)
- 说明
The Peugeot Product Plan (2020-2023)
- The Peugeot 2020-2023 product plan has been made public. After a very successful year in 2019 (208, 2008), in 2020 the Sochaux manufacturer should not only launch the 100% electric versions of the 208 and 2008, but also the hybrid versions of the 508 and 3008. Peugeot therefore targets electric on B-segment models and hybrid on upper-segment models. Like Renault, Peugeot is therefore opting out of the C-segment electric sedan, while Volkswagen will be marketing its C-segment electric sedan, the ID3, in the coming weeks.
- A restyling of the 3008 and 5008 is also expected by 2020, as well as a 100% electric version of the Expert utility vehicle.
- In 2021, a small SUV called 1008 could replace the Peugeot 108 that will be retired that year. This new model could have a 100% electric version, like the Partner. But 2021 will be above all the year of the launch of the Peugeot 308 III.
- In 2022, the 508 will be restyled and a crossover derived from the 308 will be launched. This model could be like what the Audi City Carver is to the Audi A1, in order to avoid any cannibalism with the Peugeot 3008 SUV.
- In 2023, the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 will be replaced by a brand new generation and will try to build on the success of the previous generation. The manufacturer should also restyle the 2008 (it will take another year for the 208). Finally, and more interestingly, Peugeot plans to launch new C and D segment SUVs in 2023, called 4008 and 6008, in order to expand the range upwards and enter the American market after 40 years of absence.

The collapse of French brands in China
- 说明
The collapse of French brands in China
- The French brands’ (Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, DS) sales have collapsed on the Chinese market, even before the market declined, since at PSA the trend reversal took place in 2015, three years before the trend reversal in the Chinese market. Despite the fact that PSA had been one of the first manufacturers to establish itself on the Chinese market starting in the early 1990s, the products and strategy implemented by the group did not ultimately meet Chinese demand, even though the figure of 700,000 annual sales had been reached and even exceeded in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, PSA sales fell to 614,000, 384,000 in 2017, 257,000 in 2018 and less than 150,000 in 2019. From four plants in 2014, the PSA group had only three plants three years later and now only one, since Dongfeng (the Chinese manufacturer that assembles Peugeot and Citroën) has decided to assign two of its plants to other activities. In this context, Dongfenghas further decided to sell its 12% stake in PSA and the PSA group is now considering leaving the Chinese market.
- For Renault, which entered the Chinese market much later, sales on the Chinese market are no greater than PSA's, but the French brand can count on its Japanese partner Nissan to represent the Renault-Nissan group in China ( where Nissan sells more than one million cars per year) and, on the other hand, the upcoming production launch of the small electric car K-ZE could boost Renault's sales on the Chinese market. In the meanwhile, the French brand may not sell more than 20,000 cars in 2019, compared to 50,000 in 2018 and 72,000 in 2017.

The Citroën/DS Product Plan (2020-2023)
- 说明
The Citroën/DS Product Plan (2020-2023)
- The Citroën and DS 2020-2023 product plan has been made public. It should make the range of the two automakers, which have suffered from the elimination of the Citroën C4 and C5, as well as the DS 4 and DS 5, without immediate descendants, more coherent. Thus, Citroën will see the reappearance of new C4 and C5 cars in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
- At the same time, the C4 will replace the C4 Cactus, which will cease production in 2020.
- The year 2020 will also be marked by the restyling of the C3 and the launch of the electric versions of the Jumpy, DS 3 and DS 7.
- A top-of-the-range DS 8 sedan could be launched the same year on the Peugeot 508 platform.
- In 2021, apart from the launch of the new C5, the 100% electric version of the Berlingo will appear, at the same time as the electric versions of the Peugeot Partner and Opel Combo. Also planned is the launch of the new DS 4 and DS 4 Crossback, which will finally succeed the first generation DS 4 and DS 4 Crossback.
- In 2022, a simple restyling of the C5 Aircross is planned at Citroën and nothing at DS.
- The year 2023 will be more fertile in terms of new features, as the new generations of the Citroën C3 and C3 Aircross are expected, as well as a 100% electric version of the C3, of which the current generation is deprived, due to an inadequate platform.
- In the same year, the DS brand should launch a DS 8 Crossback (or DS 9 Crossback) to crown its range, which will then be composed of the DS 3 Crossback, DS 4, DS 4 Crossback, DS 7 Crossback and DS 8.
