Stellantis Group has sold 5.8 million vehicles in 2022
The Stellantis Group sold 5.8 million vehicles last year compared to 6.14 million in 2021a decline of 5.5%. The carmaker fell from fifth to sixth place worldwide, behind the GM Group (which it had overtaken in 2021). Thus, the fourth place worldwide, which Stellantis had targeted from the beginning, is far away.

Stellantis' sales in Europe fell by 8%, which impacted the overall figure, as Europe accounts for almost half of the carmaker's sales. Despite this negative result, Stellantis managed to establish the Peugeot 208 as a top seller in Europe, becoming the largest seller of light utility vehicles in Europe (with a market share of 30.6% compared to a market share of 18.2% for passenger cars), ahead of Renault-Nissan and Ford.

In addition, the Stellantis Group announced record profits for 2022. And its BEV sales reached 288,000 vehicles last year.

Stellantis Group's global sales in 2022 are as follows:
§ Europe is its largest market with 2.6 million vehicles, representing 45% of its global sales.
§ The U.S. remains its second largest market with 1.6 million vehicles, or 28% of its global sales.
§ South America remains its third largest market with 820,000 vehicles or 14% of its global sales.
§ China accounts for only 2% of its global sales with 130,000 vehicles.

These four markets account for 89% of Stellantis Group's global sales in 2022.
Ford Group sold 3.7 million vehicles in 2022
The Ford Group has stabilized its global sales in 2022 compared to 2021, but at a low leveli.e. 3.7 million vehicles, while between 2013 and 2017 it sold more than 6 million vehicles annually, including 6.7 million in 2016, which at the time marked a production record for the US carmaker.

The Ford Group sales decline has been global since 2018, as they have decreased both in the U.S., its largest market (1.85 million sales in 2022 compared to 2.60 million in 2016), in Europe (800,000 sales in 2022 compared to 1,340,000 in 2016), in China (325,000 sales in 2022 compared to 951,000 in 2016) and in South America (70,000 sales in 2022 compared to 310,000 in 2016).

In addition, Ford Group has decided to withdraw from the markets of India, Russia and even South America, which has cut the carmaker of many sales. Ford seems to focus more and more on its home market of North America.

Ford Group's global sales in 2022 break down as follows:
§ The U.S. remains its largest market with 1.85 million vehicles, representing 50% of its global sales.
§ Europe remains the second largest market with 800,000 vehicles, representing 22% of its global sales.
§ China accounts for only 9% of its global sales with 325,000 vehicles.
§ South America remains the third largest market with 70,000 vehicles or 2% of global sales.

These four markets account for 83% of Ford Group's global sales in 2022.
The production of light vehicles in Europe should increase by 4,5% in 2023 and 4,8% in 2024
We have already seen that production volumes in Europe have declined by 5% by 2022, following the trend of the European automotive market (-6% for passenger cars and light utility vehicles, of which -4% for passenger cars). By definition, the production volume of a region is the market volume of that region plus exports as well as possible restocking of depleted inventories. According to Inovev, the growth of the European market will be around 1% in 2023 and restocking is expected to increase. Export levels should remain stable, because even if there are concerns about support for local production in the United States in particular (1st export market for Europe), the effects should not be felt at the short term.

Consequently.European production growth in 2023 can be assumed to be in the order of 4.5%. The production volume of passenger cars and light utility vehicles in Europe will therefore be 12,975,000 vehicles in 2023, compared to 12,422,138 in 2022, far from the figures reached between 2015 and 2019, when more than 17.5 million vehicles were produced per year, a level that will probably never be reached again. For 2024, Inovev forecasts a growth of 4.8% and a volume of 13,599,750 vehicles produced in Europe.

For battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), Inovev estimates that 9% of BEVs were produced in Europe and 6% PHEVs in 2022. For 2023, Inovev forecasts 11% BEVs and 8% PHEVs and 13% BEVs and 9% PHEVs in 2024.
Car production in Spain in 2022 did not exceed 1.9 million vehicles
Spain rose to become Europe's second-largest car producing country behind Germany in the early 2000s, displacing France, which relocate much of its automotive production. Although Spain has been able to maintain this second place in recent yearsthe volume of passenger cars and light utility vehicles (LUV) produced in Spain, fell to less than 2 million vehicles between 2020 and 2022, when it was close to 3 million units in 2016-2019 period.

The reason of this one million vehicles decline is that the European car market has shrunk sharply in the last three years, from 18 million light vehicles in 2019 to 14 million in 2020 and 13 million in 2022. And the main characteristic of Spain is that it produces cars only for Europe. Spain does not export cars to China or the USTherefore, the country has been hit hard by the decline of the European market.

The Stellantis Group, which produces Peugeot, Citroën and Opel in Spain, accounts for 40% of Spanish car production in 2022, with the Opel Corsa being the most produced model in the country. The Volkswagen Group, which produces VolkswagenAudi, Seat and Cupra in Spain, accounts for 33% of Spanish car production in 2022. The Renault-Nissan group, which produces Renault models and soon Mitsubishi ASX, accounts for only 11% of Spanish production, as the Mégane is increasingly squeezed by the Mégane BEV produced in France and as the Kadjar, for its part, has fallen to a low level (its will be replaced by the Austral in 2023). Finally, Ford (8% of Spanish car production) has discontinued most of its Spanish-made models such as the Transit ConnectMondeo, Galaxy and S-Max.
The 20 most produced vehicles in the world in 2022
The most produced vehicle worldwide in 2022 is the Ford F-Series (880,232 untis), which exceptionally gave up its top spot to the Toyota RAV4 in 2021. The Toyota RAV4 is in second place (863,782 untis), very close to the Ford F-Series, as the two models are separated by only 16,450 untis. The Toyota Corolla (844,693 untis) is in third place, demonstrating the strong presence of the Japanese brand in the top 20 in 2022. It is worth remembering that Toyota is the world's largest carmaker.

A big surprise in fourth place is that Tesla places its Model Y (706,665 untisthere, doubling its volume compared to 2021. The Toyota Hilux pickup (686,377 untis) takes fifth place, ahead of the Ram (679,335 untis) and Chevrolet Silverado (640,873 untis) pickups for the first time, but only by a margin. The Toyota Camry (648,262 untis) in seventh place is the brand's fourth model to appear in the top 20. The Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV (571,869 untis) in ninth place is the second most battery electric vehicle produced in 2022. In tenth place is the Honda CRV (560,612 untis) ahead of the Tesla Model 3 (547,212 untis), Volkswagen Tiguan (529,277 untis), Hyundai Tucson (498,530 untis), BYD Song (496. 834 untis), Jeep Grand Cherokee (430,631 untis), Honda Accord (430,225 untis), Nissan Sylphy (422,094 untis), Kia Sportage (412,063 untis), Toyota Corolla Cross (390,987 untis) and Volkswagen Lavida (377,152 untis).

Among the top 20 models produced worldwide in 2022, nine are SUVs, seven sedans and four pickupsEight cars come from Japanese carmakers, six from the U.S., two from Korea, two from China and two from EuropeFinally, there are three battery electric vehicles (Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV).
