50 Chinese automotive brands are being marketed in Europe in 2026
- In 2026, 50 Chinese brands are marketed in Europe, consolidated under 20 Chinese groups. Excluding Volvo, Lotus and Smart (European brands owned by Geely), they sold 814,399 cars in the first seven months of 2026.

- Only 24 of the 50 brands sold more than 1,000 vehicles in the period; 11 exceeded 10,000, and two - BYD and MG - topped 200,000 each.

- BYD (211,851) and MG (209,076) account for 51% of Chinese-brand sales (26% and 25%); the other 48 brands share the remaining 49%.

- Behind them: Jaecoo (9%), Omoda (8%), Leapmotor (8%) and Chery (4%). Jaecoo, Omoda and Chery all belong to Chery Group, whose total volume (196,256 units) rivals MG's.

- In Europe, Chery clearly outsells Geely (58,127 sales across Polestar, Lynk&Co, Zeekr and Geely) - the opposite of the Chinese market, where Geely leads.

Passenger car production in Italy has not returned to pre-Covid levels
- Italian output has not returned to pre-Covid levels - it has declined continuously since the early 1990s: 2.0 million units in 1990, 900,000 in 2007, 400,000 in 2014 and 200,000 in 2025, after a brief rebound to 700,000 in 2017 (490,000 in 2020, 445,000 in 2021).

- The Stellantis group - PSA + FCA viewed as one since the early 2000s - effectively holds a monopoly in Italy.

- Fiat's responsibility is undeniable: it offshored its best-sellers of the time - the Fiat 500, Panda and Lancia Ypsilon - mainly to Poland, and to Serbia.

- PSA could not compensate, as it was itself offshoring heavily to Spain and Eastern Europe.

- With markets in decline, streamlining Stellantis' European production is now a priority, and Italy's position looks precarious compared with France's - worsened by the planned phasing out of Lancia and DS.
