PSA will produce the future 301 and C-Elysée in Algeria from summer 2020
- The PSA group is building an assembly plant in Algeria, near Oran, near the plant that Renault built a few years ago. This new plant is part of the manufacturer's plan to establish a long-term presence in Africa. Since last summer, PSA has had a plant in Morocco (Kenitra) and a plant in Tunisia (El-Mghira), the former producing Peugeot 208s and the latter pick-ups of Chinese origin.
- The new plant located in northwest Algeria is expected to reach a production capacity of 75,000 vehicles per year, according to the manufacturer. This plant will therefore be the same size as Renault's in the same region.
- From summer 2020, this new plant will manufacture the new generations of Citroën C-Elysee and Peugeot 301 (the current models are manufactured in Vigo, Spain), most of which will be sold in the various North African markets.
- With the Moroccan plant in Kenitra, the PSA group will have an annual production capacity of 275,000 vehicles in North Africa, while Renault produced 472,683 cars in the region last year (402,086 in Morocco and 70,597 in Algeria).
- But PSA is not only setting up in North Africa, since the French manufacturer also has a factory in Kenya (1,000 cars produced in 2019 and 15,000 futures units), and plans to set up in Namibia (5,000 cars per year), Nigeria (10,000 cars per year) and Ethiopia (1,000 cars per year).
- It should be noted that the Algerian market grew by 30.6% in the first half of 2019, to 75,400 units for all brands combined.

Iranian automotive production has dropped 50% since late 2018

Iranian automotive production has dropped 50% since late 2018
- Automobile production in Iran has been suffering since October 2018 (see graph) from the shock of the severe economic sanctions imposed by Western nations, and first and foremost by the United States of America.
- The average level of 120,000 units produced per month then collapsed to 80,000 units in November and December 2018, then to 60,000 units per month from January to August 2019, i.e. half the volume recorded a year earlier.
- The brands most affected are the French brands that accounted for most of the local production (more than 40% of the total in 2017) and which have now officially ceased production, under pressure from the US government, even if a small quantity of vehicles are still manufactured from internal or external stocks.
- The PSA group is the most affected of all the manufacturers in Iran, as their shortfall will be around 300,000 to 400,000 units in 2019, and this scenario could be repeated in subsequent years, if the Trump administration maintains or strengthens these sanctions that impact all Western companies operating in Iran.
- If production volume remains at the current rate in Iran, the country will only produce about 700,000 vehicles compared to 1,400,000 two years ago. Of these 700,000 vehicles, half will leave the factories of Iran Khodro and Saipa (national brands) compared to 42% two years ago. Chinese brands will produce 20% of the total, compared to 14% two years ago. French brands will only account for a quarter of Iranian production (thanks to stocks) compared to 42% two years ago.

The FCA 2020-2023 product plan for Europe
- Details
The FCA 2020-2023 product plan for Europe
- The current collapse of sales of the Alfa-Roméo and Lancia brands has not prevented the management of the Fiat-Chrysler group from launching a new 2020-2023 product plan after Sergio Marchionne's plan presented before the summer.
- As far as the Lancia brand is concerned, its definitive abolition will take effect in 2020. As far as Alfa-Romeo is concerned, only the compact Tonale SUV (C segment) is planned for Industrialization in 2021. The two new GTV and 8C sports cars project is still hypothetical.
- It is therefore on the side of the Fiat brand that we can expect new vehicle launches between 2020 and 2023, because this brand, which is more than a hundred years old, is not in dazzling shape either.
- The only new feature introduced in 2019 was the introduction of the new 3-cylinder 1.0 l (120 hp) and 4-cylinder 1.3 l (150 hp) Euro6 compliant Turbo engines mounted on the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade. The 4-cylinder will serve as the basis for the future hybrid plug-ins to be launched in 2020 on the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade, as well as on the Jeep Compass, which will then be assembled in Italy. The real innovations will appear in 2020 and 2021.
- In 2020, the new generations of the Fiat 500 and Doblo will be launched. In 2021, the new generations of the Fiat Panda and Ducato will be launched. The 500X could be renewed in the same year. In 2022, it will be Jeep Renegade's turn. Finally, in 2023, the new generation of the Fiat Tipo, (which Sergio Marchionne had not wanted), will be launched.

Inovev forecasts 250,000 new Toyota Yaris per year

Inovev forecasts 250,000 new Toyota Yaris per year
- Toyota unveiled the fourth generation of the Yaris (B-segment sedan), after those of 1999, 2005 and 2011 (the model marketed from 2017 onwards being a restyling of the previous one).
- This new Yaris will be manufactured in France, as the previous ones, but it should be noted that France is not the only country to manufacture the Yaris, since this model is also manufactured in Japan, China, Brazil, India and Mexico (in a different form). But it is true that France remains the leading producer of Yaris: 248,541 units in 2018, out of a world total of 536,642 units, or 46% of total production. France, for example, provides the Yaris for all European countries, while the other producing countries provide this model for their own markets.
- The new Yaris is as long as the previous one (3.89m), but it is 5cm (1.75m) wider and 4cm (1.47m) lower.
- Its wheelbase increases by 5 cm. The new Yaris inaugurates the new TNGA-B platform, which is derived from the modular TNGA platform but is only used for B-segment models. This strategy is also that of Volkswagen with its MQB-A and MQB-B platforms, or Renault with its CMF-B and CMF-C/D platforms.
- The new Yaris will be available in 3-cylinder petrol 1.5 land 3-cylinder hybrid 1.5 l engine versions. Inovev expects a production volume of 250,000 Yaris IV per year at the Onnaing site. An SUV version of the Yaris is scheduled for the end of next year. It will also be manufactured at the Onnaing site.

GM 2020-2023 Product Plan for North America
- Details
GM 2020-2023 Product Plan for North America
- The GM group, which became the world's fourth largest automaker after remaining the world leader for several decades until 2004, plans to launch around 20 new models during the 2020-2023 period.
- Already, 2019 was a year of innovation, with the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans, the Chevrolet Corvette coupe and the Cadillac XT4 and XT6 SUVs. The year 2019 was therefore above all a year favouring Cadillac, the group's luxury brand. In terms of volumes, one should therefore not expect 2019 to generate significant quantities, but GM has planned to launch new products with higher sales volumes from 2020 onwards.
- The Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Equinox and Traverse SUVs, GMC Terrain as well as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks will be restyled next year, which could enable the Silverado to gain market share from the Dodge Ram. GM has also planned the 2020 renewal of the Buick Encore and Cadillac Escalade, which have consistently achieved respectable sales volumes. In 2021, GM plans to renew the Buick Envision and Cadillac XT5 SUVs, as well as launch an SUV variant of the electric Chevrolet Bolt. The new Buick Envision could be repatriated to the United States (it is currently imported from China). In 2022 and 2023, GM will renew the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Acadia and GMC Terrain SUVs as well as the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks. It is surprising that GM is abandoning the sedan category (only the Malibu will benefit from a restyling in 2022) when this category still represents 30% of the US market.
