Ford 2020-2023 Product Plan for North America
Ford's 2020-2023 product plan (currently the world's sixth largest automaker, closely followed by Honda Group) reveals that the automaker wants to eliminate all its sedans in the North American market since no replacement is planned in this category by 2023.

Ford had already recently announced that it wanted to focus on the pick-up and SUV category, which it believes are more profitable, and the new product plan confirms that the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Taurus will not be replaced and that they will be discontinued in the coming months. Only the Mustang will survive in the passenger car category, as it will have a successor in 2022. Ford could have derived a sedan version, as it had done in the past for the Cougar, because this model with its mythical name would have attracted a new clientele.

Ford is turning an important page in its history as sedans have been at the heart of the manufacturer's strategy. Even Lincoln sedans are facing a bleak future with no replacement planned by 2023.

The manufacturer will focus all its efforts on restyling and replacing its SUVs and pick-ups. We will even see new SUVs expanding the range, such as the Bronco or the 100% electric Mach E. Ford will also introduce hybrid power on its models sold in the USA and a 100% electric version of the F150 will be available in two years.

Note the transfer of the Transit Connect, when it will be replaced in 2021, from Europe to North America.

The FCA 2020-2023 product plan for North America
For the North American markets, the Fiat-Chrysler group favours the Jeep brand, which has become the most widely used brand of the Italian-American manufacturer since last year.

The Jeep SUV brand will replace the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee in 2021 and the Renegade in 2022. This latter should still be made in Italy.

Two models will be added to the already well-supplied Jeep range. These are the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, which should appear in 2021. These two models will be at the top of the Jeep range, aiming to compete with the Range Rover, Mercedes GLS and BMW X7 i.

At Chrysler, we note that the 300 sedan will not be replaced, which means that this once prestigious brand will focus solely on the Voyager and Pacifica minivans. Voyager (simplified version of the Pacifica) will attempt to take over the Dodge Caravan clientele, which should be the last minivan sold under the Dodge brand.

Unlike the Chrysler 300, it looks like Dodge is planning to replace its Charger sedan and Challenger coupe in 2023. But there are no 100% electric versions on the horizon.

It should be noted that the Ram pickup truck should be renewed in 2022, two years after the restyling of its competitors, the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado.

Volvo 2020-2023 Product Plan
The Volvo brand (a subsidiary of the Chinese Geely group) has unveiled its product plan for 2020-2023. The current range will be renewed, except for the V40, which will not be replaced. This model is not integrated into the new product plan because, although it has until now accounted for a large proportion of the brand's sales, these sales have been declining for several years now (78,000 units in 2018 compared with 92,000 in 2017 and 101,000 in 2016).

Maybe Volvo wants to focus only on the high-end, that is, on a category of cars that are more expensive and more profitable. This is proven by the planned launch in 2023 of a new SUV which is even more expensive than the XC90, the XC120, and by the launch of the Polestar models, which are more expensive and exclusive versions of the Volvo.

Volvo brand sales are increasing all over the world, in Europe, China and the United States (where Volvo has just started production in its new factory in Ridgeville), mainly with its 60 and 90 series models, in both sedan and SUV versions.

The 2020-2023 Volvo product plan foresees a restyling of the S90/V90 and XC60 in 2020, a restyling of the XC40 in 2021 and a restyling of the S60/V60 in 2022. The XC90 will be renewed in 2022 and the S90/V90 in 2023. According to Inovev, the XC60 will be renewed in 2024 and the XC40 in 2025, but this scenario is outside the 2020-2023 product plan unveiled by the manufacturer. Finally, the XC120, which will be at the top of the range, will be launched in 2023.

The Jaguar Land-Rover 2020-2023 product plan
The 2020-2023 product plan of Jaguar Land Rover (a British subsidiary of the Indian group Tata Motors) has been unveiled and presents no major surprises, as the current range will be renewed, with two additional models: a large 100% electric XJ sedan launched in 2021 and a large J-Pace SUV launched in 2022 which will be at the top of the Jaguar range. This scenario will prevail if the Jaguar Land Rover division remains in the hands of the Indian group Tata Motors.

In 2020, the Jaguar XE and XF sedans (whose distribution remains well below the manufacturer's forecasts) will be restyled, as well as the Jaguar F-Pace SUV.

While Discovery Sport was restyled in 2019, Discovery will also be restyled in 2020, while the Defender 2 (under its two wheelbase versions) will start sales at the same time.

In 2021, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport should be renewed and more importantly they will be available in a 100% electric version, which will be equipped with the engine of the new XJ presented the same year.

The Range Evoque will also benefit from this 100% electric engine in the same year, in a less powerful version. The Range Velar, as well as the Discovery, Discovery Sport and Defender will still be without electric power.

Also in 2021, the Jaguar E-Pace SUV should be restyled, and in 2022 it will be the turn of the I-Pace to benefit from a restyling. Finally, the same year, the Jaguar J-Pace will crown the brand's SUV range.

The Mercedes 2020-2023 product plan
The Mercedes product plan for 2020-2023 reveals that the current range will be renewed, except for the SLC coupé-cabriolet, which will be discontinued. The coupé-cabriolet trend quickly faded all over the world, as most manufacturers abandoned this concept. The next generation of Mercedes SL scheduled for 2021 will also abandon this technique of the folding hard roof in the trunk.

After the renewal of the Mercedes compact cars in 2018-2019 (Class A, Class B, CLA, GLB), the German manufacturer will focus on the higher categories, with the renewal of the S-Class (F segment) in 2020, the C-Class (D segment ) in 2021 and the E-Class (E segment) in 2023. However, the C-segment GLA SUV will also be renewed in 2020. It should have been renewed in 2019, but priority has been given to the GLB SUV. The launch of the GLA has therefore been postponed by one year.

The EQ range of electric cars will continue to grow. After the launch in 2019 of the EQC (D segment SUV), EQB (C segment SUV) and EQV (E segment minivan), the EQA (C segment sedan) will be launched in 2020, the EQS (F segment sedan) in 2021 and the EQE (E segment sedan) in 2022.

Class A and CLA will be restyled in 2022, before being renewed in 2025. In addition, the cut versions of the S-Class and C-Class will be renewed in 2021 and 2022 respectively. It is therefore easy to estimate the renewal date of the E-Class coupé at 2024. A year earlier, the AMG GT coupe (segment E) and the SUV GLC (segment D) will be renewed.
