Inovev forecasts 70,000 units a year of the new Ford Transit Courier
In 2014, Ford Europe decided to add a new light utility vehicle to its product range, the Transit Courier (N1-1 segment), which is in price and dimensions below the Transit Connect (N1-2 segment) which appeared in 2002 and renewed in 2013. This 4.16 m model (a Transit Connect then measured 4.42 m) competed with the slightly shorter Fiat Fiorino, Peugeot Bipper and Citroën Nemo.

The Transit Courier was produced in Turkey, alongside the Transit Custom (N1-3) and Transit (N1-3). It had a decent career in Europe with nearly 100,000 sales per year between 2016 and 2018), but fell back to 60,000 units per year after 2018. In fact, the Transit Courier sells about as much as the Transit Connect. But unlike the Transit Connect, the new generation of the Transit Courier that was just presented this month owes nothing to Volkswagen. The new model is designed entirely by Ford Europe.

The new Transit Courier has been extended by 18 cm compared to the previous, to reach 4.34 m, approaching the Transit Connect whose length has increased from 4.42 m to 4.50 m between the old and the new generation. The width increases from 1.76 m to 1.79 m and the height from 1.75 m to 1.83 m. This increase in dimensions makes it possible to carry a greater volume of goods. The Transit Courier and Connect will however now be competitors, as at Renault, the Express and the Kangoo.

Ford offers a 1.0 petrol engine (100 hp and 125 hp), a 1.5 diesel engine (100 hp) and a battery electric version (136 hp) on its new Transit Courier. Inovev forecasts 70,000 sales per year of the new model which will be produced in Craiova in Romania, alongside the Ford Puma which will receive the same electric motor.
The progressive end in Europe of mainstreams D-segment sedans using ICE
D-segment ICE sedans from mainstream carmakers are gradually disappearing. The Renault Talisman, Ford Mondeo and Opel Insignia have seen their production cease during the past twelve months. The Ford Mondeo was discontinued in April 2022, the Renault Talisman in July 2022 and the Opel Insignia in April 2023. In this category, only the Volkswagen Passat, Peugeot 508 and Skoda Superb remain among Europeans.

Among Koreans, Hyundai and Kia D-segment sedans disappeared from the European market a long time ago. Among the Japanese, the Honda, Nissan and Mazda D-segment sedans have also disappeared from this market. Only the Toyota Camry remains, often used in Europe as a vehicle for taxi companies.

Let's add that the days of the Volkswagen Passat, Peugeot 508, Skoda Superb are counted. As mainstream carmakers have long since phased out their E-segment sedans, they are now focusing on the B and C segments, as they are in the process of phasing out their A-segment sedans as well. After the end of Peugeot 108, Citroën C1, Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo, Ford Ka and Opel Adam in this segment, only the Fiat 500, Fiat Panda, Volkswagen Up and Renault Twingo remain, but not for a long time.

Mainstream carmakers are mainly betting on SUVs in the B to E segments to maintain their positions in Europe, as MPVs have also disappeared. The question is whether the electrification of the European market may boost sales of sedans or, on the contrary, accelerate their decline.
Inovev forecasts 100,000 units per year in 2030 of the Cupra Tavascan
The Cupra brand (subsidiary of the Volkswagen group, initially linked to Seat) has just unveiled its new battery electric SUV from the D-segment, the Tavascan, which is located in the carmaker's range above the  Born (C-segment).

The Tavascan is 4.64 m long against 4.33 m for the Born derived from the Volkswagen ID3. It is a little longer than the Volkswagen ID5 (4.60 m) and a little shorter than the Skoda Enyaq (4.65 m), two battery electric models from the Volkswagen group that can be considered competitors of the Cupra Tavascan. But the closest competitor of the Tavascan within the Volkswagen group seems to be the Audi Q4 E-Tron (4.59 m) which targets the same type of customers. All these models share the same MEB platform dedicated to the battery electric vehicles of the Volkswagen group.

Above all, the Cupra Tavascan seems to be the ideal rival of the Tesla Model Y (4.75 m) which has just taken the leading position on the European market in the first quarter of 2023. Other competitors such as the Ford Mustang Mach E or the Nissan Ariya are also in the sights of the Tavascan.

The Tavascan's electric motor (mounted at the rear) delivers 207 kW and its battery has a capacity of 77 kWh, allowing a range of 550 km according to the WLTP cycle. A sports version delivering 246 kW is scheduled for next year.

While this new model was developed in Barcelona, its production will be made in China, in a Volkswagen factory located in Anhui, in order to respond directly to local demand but also to external demand. According to Inovev, production of the Tavascan could initially reach 50,000 units per year and then 100,000 per year around 2030.
Inovev forecasts 250,000 units per year of the new Mercedes E-Class in the world
Mercedes this month unveiled the sixth generation of its E-Class sedan (E-segment) joining the all-electric EQE launched last year in the Mercedes range in this segment, but with a different body style. In this regard, Mercedes' strategy is opposed to BMW, which prefers to offer electric models similar to thermal versions. The Mercedes E-Class, which is equipped with 2-litre petrol and diesel internal combustion engines, is therefore aimed at a more traditional or even conservative clientele. These are however equipped with mild-hybrid (MHEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technologies. The station wagon version of the new Mercedes E-Class should be presented in the middle of the year, and the coupe version at the end of the year. The AMG versions should be unveiled next year.

The Mercedes E-Class is still the preferred competitor of the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, which should be renewed at the end of the year. It will be produced as before in Germany (Sindelfingen) and China (Baoding). It is interesting to note that since 2021, the E-Class is produced more in China than in Germany.

In China, its production volume increased significantly between 2005 and 2018 and then stabilized at 150,000 units per year since then, probably a victim of competition. At the same time, the production volume of the E-Class in Europe collapsed from 2018 to fall to 100,000 units per year in 2022. The two phenomena are somewhat linked because a good part of the E-Class produced in Europe has been gradually transferred to China for local demand. Inovev is counting on 250,000 new Mercedes E-Class produced worldwide per year, not marking any progress compared to the previous generation because the market for thermal or hybrid cars will decline in Europe or in China.
