Nissan 2020-2023 Product Plan for North America
The 2020-2023 Nissan product plan for the North American market is focused on SUVs, a category that continues to grow in this market and is tending to further marginalize the full-blown sedan category. of jam. Of the 11 models that Nissan plans to launch or restyling during this period, 7 will be SUVs, only 3 will be sedans and 1 will be a pickup.

Of these 11 models, 10 will be complete renewals and one will be a restyling, proof that many Nissan models were at the end of the cycle and that the poor performance of the group in the past two years have convinced its new management to renew quickly all from the range.

The year 2020 will be full of innovations, with the renewal of the Sentra sedan (C segment), SUV Rogue (local name of the X-Trail), Armada SUV and Frontier pickup (local name of the Nissan Navara).

The year 2021 will be marked by the renewal of the Leaf saloon (100% electric), SUV Rogue Sport (local name of Qashqai) and SUV Pathfinder. It is possible that the Qashqai will be renewed in Europe as of 2020, because this model is very diffused on this continent, much less in North America. The year 2021 will also be marked by the launch of an unprecedented 100% electric SUV based on Nissan Leaf. SUV Kicks and Murano will be renewed in 2022.

Finally, the Versa sedan (segment C) will be restyled mid-life in 2023.

Infiniti 2020-2023 Product Plan for North America
The 2020-2023 product plan for the Infiniti brand (Nissan Group Premium brand) in the North American market focuses on SUVs, as it does for its Nissan parent company. Indeed, of the 7 models that Infiniti plans to launch during this period, 5 are SUVs and only 2 are sedans.

Of these 7 models, all will be completely renewed, even the big SUV QX70 (ex-FX35-45), the most emblematic model of the brand since it had launched the concept of SUV-coupe since 2008. This model was removed from the catalog in 2018 without descendants.

However, Infiniti will not replace the Q30 / QX30 sedans (C-segment) that were unsuccessful in the North American market.

Infiniti has sold a total of 150,000 cars in the US in 2018, which is two times less than Lexus, BMW or Mercedes but the brand intends to remain in North America, while it has just disappeared from the European market.

The year 2020 will see the launch of a coupe version of the SUV QX50 marketed since 2018. More and more manufacturers are releasing such versions coupe from their original SUV.

In 2021, Infiniti plans to renew its SUV QX60 which was its best sale in 2018.

The year 2022 will be rich in novelties, since Infiniti will renew the Q50 and Q70 sedans, whose origins date back to 2013, and will launch a new 100% electric SUV based on Nissan Leaf, a year after an equivalent model at Nissan.

In 2023, the big SUV QX70 and QX80 will be renewed. The QX70 will have waited for its replacement since 2018.

2019 Tokyo Motor Show Focused on Concept Cars
The Tokyo Motor Show held from October 24 to November 4, 2019 remained as in previous years a show dominated largely by Japanese manufacturers, and as in previous years, the focus was on concept cars. There are 18 concept cars on the 22 main novelties of the show.

The Volkswagen, BMW and FCA groups have decided not to participate in this event.

The new products listed by Inovev are:
Mazda MX-30, Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris, Subaru Levorg ready to be marketed.

The concept cars are:
Daihatsu Icolco, Daihatsu Tsumutsumu, Daihatsu Waiwai, Daihatsu Wakuwaku, Mitsubishi K-Wagon, Mitsubishi Mi-Tech, Nissan Ariya, Nissan IMK, Subaru BRZ II, Suzuki Every Combi, Suzuki Hanare, Suzuki Hustler, Suzuki Waku Spo, Toyota BEV, Toyota GT86 II, Mirai Toyota, Toyota LQ, Lexus LF-30.

Of these 18 concept cars, there are 10 midgets (K cars) and 8 models of medium or higher category. The category of micro-vehicles which represent one-third of the Japanese market is therefore overrepresented in this show. The electric versions represent eight models. Surprisingly, SUVs are poorly represented, but it is a constant in Japan. Only five SUVs (including four concept cars) were presented as novelties at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

Honda 2020-2023 Product Plan for North America
The 2020-2023 product plan for the Honda brand in the North American market places less emphasis on SUVs than Toyota or Nissan, because the 13 models that Honda plans to launch or restylate during this period, 6 are sedans, 4 are SUVs, 2 are MPVs and 1 is a pickup. Of these 13 models, 9 will be completely renewed and 4 will be restyled.

Compared to Toyota and Nissan, Honda sold 1.45 million cars in the US in 2018, compared to 2.15 million for Toyota and 1.35 million for Nissan. These figures highlight the balance of power between the three Japanese manufacturers.

The year 2020 will be marked by the restyling of the Honda Civic sedans (C segment), Accord (D segment) and the Odyssey minivan. The SUV HRV should be renewed the same year. The year 2021 will be marked by the restyling of the Insight sedan (segment C) and the renewal of Passport and Pilot SUVs. The year 2022 will see the renewal of the Accord Sedan and the CRV SUV, a crucial year, given the importance of these two models on the American market.

Finally in 2023, Civic sedans (C segment) and Insight (C segment) will be renewed (the European Civic should be renewed the same year), at the same time as the Odyssey minivan and Ridgeline pickup.

Honda's premium brand, Acura, includes the renewal of the ILX and TLX sedans in 2020, as well as the SUV MDX. The RDX SUV will be restyled in 2021, then the ILX, TLX and MDX will be restyled in 2023.

Acura sold 150,000 cars in the US in 2018, like Infiniti. It's two times less than Lexus, BMW or Mercedes.

Inovev expects 400,000 units per year from the new Honda Jazz
At the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, Honda presented the new generation of Jazz (B-segment sedan) called Fit in Japan. This model will be available again in hybrid engines in all markets.

The new model takes the engine of the recent Honda Insight, before being installed soon under the hoods of Civic and HRV. The new Jazz will paradoxically compete with the Honda e 100% electric (segment B sedan) that the Japanese manufacturer intends to launch in 2020, at the same time as the Jazz.

Given the limited distribution of Honda on the European market, all Jazz should now be imported from Japan, as the Civic from 2021-2022. On the other hand, Jazz production is expected to continue in China, Brazil, Mexico, and India for local markets. Note that in 2018, there has been as much Jazz in China as in Japan.

The evolution of global production of the Honda Jazz has shown a marked decline since 2016, which has accelerated the renewal of the model whose style becomes more conventional and more consensual.

The new Honda Jazz is expected to take over the older generation Atkinson i-VTEC atmospheric 1.5 petrol engine, which will be available in hybrid form, as its direct competitor, the Toyota Yaris IV (called Vitz in Japan) presented at the same show. of Tokyo. Inovev expects 400,000 units per year produced in the world of New Jazz including 150,000 to 200,000 units produced at the only Japanese Yorii site.
