Production volume of the new Honda Accord should be around 450 000 a year
- The Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima have been among the top five passenger car sales in the United States for more than a decade. These three directly competitive D-segment sedans outperform the Chevrolet (Malibu) and Ford (Fusion) in the same segment. In 2016, 390,000 Toyota Camry, 345,000 Honda Accord, and 305,000 Nissan Altima were sold on the US market, compared to 260,000 Ford Fusion and 230,000 Chevrolet Malibu.
- Six months after the introduction of the new generation of the Toyota Camry at the Detroit Auto Show, Honda presents the new generation of the Honda Accord, which will still be produced at the Marysville, Ohio site.
- The new Accord abandons the V6 engine and the coupe version. It is equipped exclusively with 4-cylinder gasoline engines: a 1.5 turbo developing 192ch and a 2.0 turbo developing 252 hp. These two engines will be connected to a six-speed manual transmission as well as a CVT (1.5) and a 10-speed automatic (2.0). A hybrid version will be released later on.
- The design, of the bicorps type, keeps a conventional trunk, in line with the taste of the American clientele. The new Accord has a longer wheelbase (+55 mm), a lowered height (-15 mm), a wider body (+10 mm) and a shorter length (-10 mm). The objective of Honda is to sell 400,000 Accord per year on the US market, as much as Toyota Camry. The volume of production is expected to be around 450,000 units per year.

Ford produces three times more LCV than PC in the NAFTA zone

Ford produces three times more LCV than PC in the NAFTA zone
- The demand of American, Canadian and Mexican customers is increasingly concentrated on light trucks (SUVs, pick-ups and minivans). In the first half of 2017, 63% of sales were light trucks in the United States, 67% in Canada and 65% in Mexico. The American manufacturers sell the most light trucks: GM makes 74% of its sales with this type of vehicles, Ford makes 76% and Chrysler 86%. These figures mean that -compared to 63% of light truck sales in the United States of all brands- foreign manufacturers (Japanese, Korean, European) sell far fewer light trucks than their US counterparts and more passenger cars (mainly sedans).
- Looking at the production of the Ford group between 1950 and 2016, it can be seen that PC production remained predominant until the mid-1990s, but after a steady decline since that time, it now stands at only 25 % of Ford's production in 2016 in the NAFTA zone (USA, Canada, Mexico). This means that Ford now produces three times more LCVs than PCs in this area.
- At GM and Chrysler, the proportion of PCs produced in the NAFTA area is 25% and 15% respectively in 2016. Production of passenger cars has therefore significantly decreased in the NAFTA zone.

Most sold BEV et PHEV cars in 2016

Most sold BEV et PHEV cars in 2016
- A hundred 100% electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid models (PHEV) are currently available on the world automotive market. But 15 models alone account for more than 50% of the BEV and PHEV market and 25 models account for almost 70% of this market.
- Of these 25 models, 14 are Chinese, 4 are American, 3 are German, 2 are Japanese, 1 is French.
- Chinese automakers are thus far ahead in terms of available models, which could encourage their growth, because the more products available on the market, the more likely it is that the market develops. For example, in the first 25 BEV + PHEV models sold in 2016, which make up almost 70% of the world market for BEV and PHEV, Chinese models accounted for more than 250 000 sales, while Japanese models represented 80,000 units and the US models 120,000 units. European manufacturers accounted for 90,000 units.
- The four best-selling 100% electric cars in the world in 2016 are the Nissan Leaf (51,852 units), Tesla Model S (50,944), BMW i3 (25,934) and Tesla Model X (25,299).
- The world's best-selling rechargeable hybrid cars in 2016 are BYD Tang (31,405 units), Chevrolet Volt (28,296), Mitsubishi Outlander (27,322) and BYD Qin (21,868).

FCA’s objectives for Alfa-Roméo will not be reached

FCA’s objectives for Alfa-Roméo will not be reached
- FCA's targets for sales of Alfa-Romeo in the years 2017-2020 will not be met. The original objective of the manufacturer was to sell 400,000 Alfa-Romeo brand models in 2018. Then this target was postponed to 2020.
- Today, it is not clear how this new goal could be achieved, given that:
1 / only 50,000 Alfa-Romeo have been sold worldwide over the 6 months of 2017.
2 / only 53 000 Alfa-Romeo have been produced on the various Italian sites over the first 6 months of 2017.
3 / The rise in cadences of the recent models Giulia and Stelvio is less rapid and less strong than expected.
- Taking into account the slow rate of growth of the Giulia and Stelvio, the brand's projections for the full year 2017 stand at 100,000 sales or even 110,000 at best.
- In three years, from 2017 to 2020, the brand should therefore increase from 100,000 to 400,000 sales. How can we find 300,000 more sales, especially since the Mito and Giulietta may not have descendants?
- The product plan announces the launch of a C-segment SUV in 2018 and an E-segment sedan in 2019. That will not be enough to reach sales of 300,000 vehicles . In the best case, Alfa-Romeo could , if the announced plan is respected, sell between 150,000 and 160,000 cars in 2020.
