Inovev forecast 100,000 units per year of the new Citroën C4
- Citroën has unveiled its new C segment sedan which will replace the C4 and C4 Cactus from January 2021. The new model called C4 therefore mixes the style of these two cars, the sedan style and the SUV style, which gives it a very personal style. According to the carmaker, the choice of the body style corresponds to a crossover choice, making it possible to attract both sedan and compact SUV customers. The new C4 will be produced at the Villaverde site (Spain) as the C4 Cactus. This site is a former Barreiros site, which became Chrysler Spain in 1970 then Talbot in 1979 and finally a PSA site in 1987.
- The new C4 is based on the CMP platformused on the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa of B-segment, and not on the EMP2 platform of the C-segment Peugeot 308 and Citroën C5 Aircross. This is why the C4 is available in petrol version, diesel version and 100% electric version, which allows the CMP platform. The C4 receives the 1.2 liter 3-cylinder petrol (99hp, 128hp and 153hp), the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel (101hp) and the electric motor already fitted to the Peugeot e-208, e-2008 and Opel e-Corsa. The batteries capacity allows a range of 300 km according to the WLTP cycle.
- The e-C4 should cost 10,000 euros more than the C4 petrol, but with the government subsidy for plug-in cars, its price should be fairly close.
- Inovev forecasts a volume of 100,000 units per year for the new Citroën C4 produced in Villaverde. The C4 competes with the VW Golf, Ford Focus, Opel Astra, Renault Mégane, Peugeot 308, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Hyundai i30 and Kia XCeed.

Inovev forecasts 500,000 units per year of the new Nissan X-Trail
- Nissan currently has several SUVs in its range, spread over different segments. Thus the Japanese carmaker markets the Juke (B-segment), the Qashqai (C-segment) known in North America under the name Rogue Sport, the X-Trail (D-segment) known in North America under the name Rogue, the Pathfinder (E-segment) and Murano (E-segment). In certain markets, Nissan also distributes the Kicks (B-segment) and the Terrano(C-segment).
- The X-Trail (Rogue) has so far represented the largest production volume with a total of nearly 900,000 units produced in 2017, but sales of the model collapsed in 2019 with only 443,000 copies, which represents a fall of 50% in two years. Such a fall seems to be part of the current difficulties of Nissan. The Japanese carmaker will try to boost sales of the model by replacing it with a new generation that has just been unveiled on the American market, but which will also be marketed in Europe in the same form in a few months.
- 4 cm shorter than the old generation, the new X-Trail has a 2.5 liter petrol of 180 hp for the American market, but it will use a 1600 diesel of 130 hp and a 2000 diesel of 177 hp on the European market.
- The X-Trail will not be produced on the Sunderland (United Kingdom) plant as initially planned, but on the Kyushu (Japan) plant. Inovev forecasts 500,000 units per year of the new X-Trail (including the Rogue). The trend for large SUVs with thermal engines is likely to be declining and the X-Trail will not return to the levels known between 2015 and 2018.

Inovev plans 150,000 units per year of the new Opel Mokka
- Opel (now a German subsidiary of the PSA group) has just unveiled its new B-segment SUV, the second generation of the Mokka. Compared to the old Mokka (GM design), it is completely new as it is based on a PSA platform (CMP) already used on the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, but also on the Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback to which the Mokka is directly affiliated, as it is also B-segments SUVs.
- The new Mokka is shorter by 12 cm, to 4.15 m, which is 15 cm less than the Peugeot 2008 but 3 cm more than the DS 3 Crossback. Its wheelbase increases by 2 cm and its width by 1 cm for more balanced proportions. The design of the Mokka is very different from the Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback, in order to personalize each SUV of each brand. Like all the other models using the CMP platform, the new Mokka will be available as soon as it is marketed in a 100% electric version, in addition to the versions with thermal engines.
- The electric motor produced in Trémeryand the batteries allow a range of 322 km according to the WLTP cycle. The thermal engines are the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel also mounted on the Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback.
- The new Opel Mokka will be produced on the French site of Poissy, which is a first for an Opel. Inovev forecasts 150,000 units of the new Opel Mokkaper year (compared to 75,000 in 2019) if it is sold at a competitive price compared to the Opel Crossland, which will be one of its competitors.

- After five years of career, the Ford F-150 Series pickup truck is completely redesigned. This model, which remains the sales leader in the United States and Canada, is one of the most produced models in the world, even if the volume of 700,000 units sold worldwide in 2019 (including 500,000 in the United States and 150,000 in Canada) is far from the figures reached before 2008 (more than a million units in 2005 for example). These figures reflect an unfavorable development in the market for large pick-ups.
- The big pickup trend is declining, even in the United States. If the Dodge Ram has seen its influence increase until recently supplanting the Chevrolet Silverado, the sales of large pickups overall segment are decreasing for several years. The Chevrolet Silverado and the Ford F-Series have thus lost part of their traditional sales and Japanese carmakers are still experiencing difficulties in this category.
- Ford intends to boost sales of its favorite model by launching a new generation of the F-Series, available now in six different engines: a 3.3-liter V6 gasoline naturally aspirated, a 2.7-liter V6 twin-turbo petrol, a V6 twin-turbo petrol , 5 liters, a 5.0 liter gasoline V8 naturally aspirated, a 3.0 liter V6 turbodiesel and a 3.5 liter twin turbo V6.
- This is the first time that the Ford F-Series has received a hybrid engine. A 100% electric version is even scheduled for 2022.
- The Ford F-150 Series will continue to be produced at the historic plant in Dearborn, Michigan near Detroit. Inovev forecasts 800,000 units of the new Ford pickup truck annually, taking into account the changing market for large pickups.

The Daimler group wants to sell the Hambach Smart plant
- The Daimler group (owner of the Smart brand) has announced that it wants to sell its Smart factory in Hambach, in Moselle (France). This factory has been producing Smart models since its inauguration in 1998 and since this year, the Hambach plant has produced 1,450,000 cars.
- Last year, following an agreement signed with the Chinese Geely, Daimler had announced the end of production of Smart in France in 2021 and the transfer of production to China, but had announced at the same time that the Hambach'splant would then be dedicated to the production of a Mercedes Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), with a first model: the Mercedes EQA.
- Since then, Daimler's management has changed and the coronavirus crisis has shaken up a lot of projects, including at Daimler. Daimler’s commitment has therefore been put in question, following the coronavirus crisis which is pushing (or giving the opportunity?) carmakers to make significant savings on their current and future investments.
- Daimler has announced more than 10,000 job cuts worldwide, and the sharp drop in sales causing unprecedented overcapacity in production does not go in the direction of a conservation of the Hambach site.
- It will not be easy to find a buyer for this site, especially in the current circumstances. One possibility could be the takeover by a Chinese carmaker who could be interested by marketing BEVs in Europe.
