Nissan will stop producing the Pulsar in July 2018
- Nissan has announced that it will cease production of the Pulsar sedan (C-segment) in July 2018 and that it will not be replaced. This model has been manufactured on the Renault-Nissan Barcelona site, alongside the Nissan Navara and NV200 pickup trucks since 2014, but the expected volumes did not materialise as only 180,000 Pulsars found buyers in four years. That's an average of 45,000 units a year, while the Nissan Qashqai SUV sells 300,000 units a year in Europe alone.
- The Pulsar was launched in 2014 to support the Qashqai in the C segment and compete with the Toyota Auris, Honda Civic and Mazda 3. It was also a way for Nissan to replace a sedan in the C segment after the Almera was cancelled in 2006 to make room for Qashqai.
- Unfortunately, this model competed directly with the Renault Mégane belonging to the same group and the new Nissan Micra which arrived on the market in 2016 also competed with the Pulsar and accelerated its fall in sales.
- The Nissan C segment sedan experienced a peak production in 2015, with 78,000 units, before collapsing in 2016 (58,000 units) and again in 2017 (28,000 units). At the same time, the Qashqai remained stable at 300,000 units a year. The launch of Pulsar has therefore had no impact on Qashqai's career. Nissan is definitely abandoning the C-segment sedan segment in Europe, leaving the field open for its C-segment SUV, the Qashqai.

Inovev expects 650,000 sales / year for the new Chevrolet Silverado

Inovev expects 650,000 sales / year for the new Chevrolet Silverado
- At the 2018 Detroit Auto Show GM Group unveiled the new generation of its big Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which traditionally ranks among the top three in the US market, behind the Ford F-Series and ahead of the Dodge Ram, its direct competitors. The Chevrolet Silverado is backed up by the GMC Sierra.
- As the previous generation of the Silverado pickup was in 2013, and the Ford F Series was renewed in 2015, it was time for the GM Group to replace the best-selling (over 600,000 sales per year on average) and most profitable model of its catalog. The Dodge Ram is being renewed at the same time as the Silverado, since its new generation was also unveiled at the Detroit Show 2018.
- One should remember that the large-truck market in the United States is 2.5 million vehicles per year, a 15% share.of a total market of 17.5 million. These vehicles represent high volumes and an important source of profits for Ford, GM and FCA. This is why the three manufacturers will never give up this category of vehicles.
- It is interesting to note that the new Chevrolet Silverado features V6 and V8 petrol engines, as well as a 3.0-turbo diesel engine, similar to the Ford F-Series but unlike the Dodge Ram. The Silverado will continue to be manufactured at the same sites in the USA (Flint Michigan) and Mexico (Ramos Arizpe). Inovev expects 650,000 yearly sales.

PSA could sell the Ellesmere Port plant to Jaguar Land Rover
- Details
PSA could sell the Ellesmere Port plant to Jaguar Land Rover
- In its analysis on the future of the PSA site in Ellesmere Port (United Kingdom ) published on November 13, 2017, Inovev concluded that PSA, which is significantly lowering the production capacity at this plant, should either produce another model from 2021 (end of life of the current Opel Astra) or close the factory, like Ryton (ex-Chrysler UK) that it closed in 2007 or Lindwood (ex-Chrysler UK) ) that it closed in 1981.
- The PSA group could have found another solution to save the Ellesmere Port plant, while no longer producing there. The project currently under negotiation would be to sell the Ellesmere Port plant to the Jaguar Land Rover group (a subsidiary of the Indian Tata group ) which currently lacks production capacity to meet demand, and will lack even more if the Jaguar and Land Rover product lines continue to grow as at present. Jaguar has recently decided to produce its E-Pace SUV at the tier 0.5 Magna’s plant in Austria, the future I-Pace will also be produced at Magna, and the future J-Pace and XJ will be launched in 2020 and 2021. Land Rover will also renew its range over the next few years and launch a brand new generation of the Defender in 2019.
- Jaguar Land Rover sold 620,000 cars worldwide in 2017 (up from 490,000 in 2015), while today it only has a capacity of 490,000 units in its own factories.

Inovev expects 600,000 sales / year for the new Dodge Ram 1500
- At the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in the Fiat-Chrysler Group (FCA) unveiled the new generation of its large Dodge Ram pickup truck that traditionally ranks among the top three in the US, behind the unstoppable Ford F Series and Chevrolet Silverado, its direct competitors. The previous generation of the Ram pickup dates from 2008 and the Ford F Series was renewed in 2015, so it was high time for the FCA Group to replace the best-selling (600,000 sales per year on average) and most profitable model of its catalog. The Chevrolet Silverado is being renewed at the same time as the Ram, since its new generation was also unveiled at the Detroit Show 2018.
- One must remember that the large-truck market in the United States accounts for 2.5 million vehicles per year or a 15% share of a total market of 17.5 million. For Ford, GM and FCA ,these vehicles represent a high volume and an important source of profits. This is why the three manufacturers will never give up this category of vehicles.
- Interestingly, the new Dodge Ram features only V6 and V8 petrol engines; the 3.0 turbo diesel engine ha been cancelled, probably because it does not meet new emissions regulations.
- Ram will continue to be manufactured at the same sites in the US (Warren / Michigan) and Mexico (Toluca). Inovev expects 600,000 yearly sales.

Inovev forecasts 50,000 to 60,000 sales/year for the Lincoln Nautilus
- Details
Inovev forecasts 50,000 to 60,000 sales/year for the Lincoln Nautilus
- Lincoln, the premium brand of the Ford group, has unveiled the Nautilus SUV (D-segment), built upon the Ford Edge platform. The Nautilus replaces the MKX in the Lincoln range and will support the other SUVs of the brand, namely the MKC (C segment), MKT (E segment) and Navigator (F segment). The MKX has remained the most produced Lincoln SUV for many years, before being overtaken by the cheaper and more compact MKC
- However, sales of the MKX have never exceeded 50,000 units per year (they reached 48,000 units in 2017, against 49,000 in 2016), the peak of sales was reached in 2007, with a volume of 50,000 sales. The new generation of MKX, renamed Nautilus, is expected to exceed 50,000 annual sales, although the US market is expected to fall slightly over the next few years. The Ford Group intends to revive the Lincoln brand in the Chinese market, very fond of SUV and Premium models. And the Nautilus could help Lincoln to win in this market. It would compete with Cadillac, Lexus, Infiniti and Acura D-segment SUVs.
- The Nautilus is equipped with two gasoline engines: a 2.0-liter turbo engine developing 245hp and a 2.7-liter turbo V6 developing 335hp. This model will be marketed from next spring. Depending upon the success of Nautilus on the Chinese market, Inovev expects 50,000 to 60,000 yearly worldwide sales of this model.
