Lincoln unveils the new Navigator SUV
- Lincoln (Ford's premium subsidiary) unveiled the new generation of the Navigator, SUV a luxurious version of the Ford Expedition, the biggest SUV in the history of the brand since its inception in 1997.
- This model is in its fourth generation (the previous one was in 2007) and it is still based on the platform used by the F-Series pickup that was renewed in 2015. The Navigator also has an aluminum body In white. This large SUV is traditionally the direct competitor of the Cadillac Escalade which is based on the platform used by the Silverado pickup.
- The Lincoln Navigator, like the Ford Expedition, is manufactured at the Louisville (Kentucky) site since 2009. It was previously manufactured at the Wayne (Michigan) site.
- The new generation Lincoln Navigator succeeds a model that had reached nearly 12,000 sales in 2016 (against 15,000 in 2015). The sales figures achieved by the previous generation (2008-2017) are however quite different from those recorded before 2008 (26 000 units in 2007 and even 30 000 units in 2005) but Inovev thinks that 20 000 sales could be reached again in 2018, with a US market expected to maintain or grow slightly depending on the scenarios.
- The Lincoln Navigator will, as in the past, be marketed only in North America.

US Market is down in the first quarter of 2017
- The US market is down (- 1.4%) in the first quarter of 2017, a modest decline but it is the first since 2010. It could be possible that the US market will decline over the whole of 2017 after seven years of uninterrupted growth. Inovev nevertheless maintains its two growth scenarios for the year 2017, published at the beginning of the year (see graph below).
- In the first quarter of 2017, the 6.5% increase in sales of light trucks (SUVs, Pick-up, pickup trucks) could not quite compensate for the 12.4% decline in sales of passenger cars (sedans, station wagons, coupes, cabriolets).
- The share of light trucks in US vehicle sales thus increased from 58% in the first quarter of 2016 to 63% in the first quarter of 2017, while that of passenger cars decreased from 42% to 37% at the same time. Sales of light trucks could soon reach two out of three sales, which has never happened to date.
- Manufacturers that continued to grow in the first quarter of 2017 were Tesla (+ 35.9%), Tata Motors (+ 21.1%), Volkswagen Group (+ 9.0%), Subaru (+ 9.0% ), Mazda (+ 6.8%), Renault-Nissan (+ 4.8%), Daimler Group (+ 3.9%), Honda Group (+ 2.1%), GM Group (+ 0.9%), BMW Group (+ 0.6%). Manufacturers that lost market share include: Ford Group (- 4.4%), Toyota Group (- 6.4%), FCA Group (- 7.1%), Hyundai-Kia Group (- 7.2%) and Geely Group (- 29.8%).

Buick unveils the second generation of the Enclave
- Buick unveiled the second generation Enclave SUV which is the largest model of the brand in the United States. The first generation was launched in 2007 and restyled in 2013. It shared its platform with that of the GMC Acadia (launched in 2006) and Chevrolet Traverse (launched in 2008). These were replaced in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and it is the turn of the Buick Enclave to be replaced, using the new 130 kg lighter platform also used by the GMC and Chevrolet models.
- In the Buick range, the new SUV Enclave will be located above the SUV Encore (4.28m) and Envision (4.67m). Unlike the Envision model (produced in China), the Enclave will continue to be manufactured in the United States on the same site as previously (Lansing - Michigan), which is also the site of the Chevrolet Traverse.
- While the Chevrolet Traverse is planned for 130,000 units per year and the Acadia GMC at 110,000 units per year, the more expensive Buick Enclave should not exceed 80,000 units per year, according to Inovev.
- The new Buick Enclave will feature the most powerful engines of the Traverse-Acadia-Enclave trio as it will eschew the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.5-litre petrol engines with 194hp, to adopt the V6 3.0-liter bi-turbo petrol and 3.6 liters petrol with 310hp.
