Buick unveils the second generation of the Enclave
- Buick unveiled the second generation Enclave SUV which is the largest model of the brand in the United States. The first generation was launched in 2007 and restyled in 2013. It shared its platform with that of the GMC Acadia (launched in 2006) and Chevrolet Traverse (launched in 2008). These were replaced in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and it is the turn of the Buick Enclave to be replaced, using the new 130 kg lighter platform also used by the GMC and Chevrolet models.
- In the Buick range, the new SUV Enclave will be located above the SUV Encore (4.28m) and Envision (4.67m). Unlike the Envision model (produced in China), the Enclave will continue to be manufactured in the United States on the same site as previously (Lansing - Michigan), which is also the site of the Chevrolet Traverse.
- While the Chevrolet Traverse is planned for 130,000 units per year and the Acadia GMC at 110,000 units per year, the more expensive Buick Enclave should not exceed 80,000 units per year, according to Inovev.
- The new Buick Enclave will feature the most powerful engines of the Traverse-Acadia-Enclave trio as it will eschew the 2.0-litre petrol and 2.5-litre petrol engines with 194hp, to adopt the V6 3.0-liter bi-turbo petrol and 3.6 liters petrol with 310hp.

US Market is down in the first quarter of 2017
- The US market is down (- 1.4%) in the first quarter of 2017, a modest decline but it is the first since 2010. Inovev nevertheless maintains its two growth scenarios for the year 2017, published at the beginning of the year (see graph below).
- In the first quarter of 2017, the 6.5% increase in sales of light trucks (SUVs, Pick-up, pickup trucks) could not quite compensate for the 12.4% decline in sales of passenger cars (sedans, station wagons, coupes, cabriolets).
- The share of light trucks in US vehicle sales thus increased from 58% in the first quarter of 2016 to 63% in the first quarter of 2017, while that of passenger cars decreased from 42% to 37% at the same time. Sales of light trucks could soon reach two out of three sales, which has never happened to date.

Borgward will double production capacities in 2018
- Details
Borgward will double production capacities in 2018
- Borgward, which was relaunched by China's BAIC last year, will double its production capacity in China from 201,000 vehicles a year in 2017 to 360,000 a year in 2018. Since last fall, in its Miyun plant (in the suburbs of Beijing), Borgward has been producing the BX7 (D Segment SUV), at 6,500 units a month (i.e. 80,000/year), and will launch the BX5 (segment C SUV). Several other models will subsequently be launched.
- In addition, Borgward confirms the construction of a factory in Germany in 2017, located in Bremen, the historic site of the Borgward brand, which manufactured more than one million cars between 1931 and 1961.
- The brand intends to return to Europe with 100% electric vehicles. The first model produced in Bremen will therefore be a 100% electric version of the BX7. The Borgward plant in Bremen will be the first automotive production site created in Germany since the opening of the BMW and Porsche factories in Leipzig some fifteen years ago. The new Borgward plant in Bremen will be calibrated for a production of 10 000 electric cars a year, i.e. a volume twice that of the recently closed plants of Great Wall in Bulgaria or MG in Great Britain.
- The challenge for Borgward is whether European customers will consider them as either a German brand or a Chinese brand, which will make for very different results.
