2019 Geneva MotorShow - Volkswagen
Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan will be the brand's first 100% electric sedan to be built on   Volkswagen group’s MEB platform dedicated to electric cars . This model, a little more compact than the Porsche Panamera, will be equipped with a 600 hp electric motor allowing a range of 450km.

The Taycanwill be produced in small quantities at the German site in Leipzig. The high price of this model (close to that of a Panamera) will mean that it  will  not achieve   very large volumes.

Inovev expects a maximum of 20,000 annual sales.

Skoda Scala

Skoda replaces its Rapid model (C-segment tri-body  sedan) with the Scala, whose body adopts  a hatchback line. Hyundai could introduce the new generation of its A-segment sedan, the i10, which is produced at the manufacturer's Turkish site, alongside the i20 B-segment sedan.

The i10 sedan is one of the A-segment sedans still available on the European market, like  the Fiat Panda, Renault Twingo, Peugeot 108, Citroen C1, Smart Forfour, Volkswagen Up, Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo, Ford Ka and Opel Karl, small 5-door models whose future remains uncertain, due to low volumes ,and low profitability.

The Hyundai i10 shares its platform with the Kia Picanto,  Hyundai and Kia being part of the same group.

Kia Soul Electric

Kia could introduce the new generation of its B-segment SUV, Soul  which will now only be available in its 100% electric version, which was a popular option on the previous generation.

This model is the counterpart of the Hyundai Kona Electric, which uses the same engine. Both models are manufactured in the same factory in South Korea.

At Hyundai-Kia, Soul completes the range of 100% electric cars, such as the Niro, Ioniq and Kona.

2019 Geneva MotorShow - Peugeot-Citroen
Citroën Ami One Concept

To replace its Mitsubishi C-Zero design, Citroën unveils the Ami One, a 100% electric two-seater quadricycle concept of its own design, which could be launched in the early 2020s.

- The Ami One is the answer to the new uses of customers and the challenge of  energy transition in the city. The Ami One could be driven as early as the age of 14.

To comply with these regulations, the vehicle would not exceed 45 km/h, which is more than enough speed in the city. The lithium-ion battery installed  under  the floor would allow a range of 100 km.

Peugeot 208 II

Peugeot unveils the new generation 208, at the same time and in the same place as Renault for the new generation Clio.

The new 208 is based on the CMP platform, already used  by the DS3 Crossback, and will have two Thermal engines and a 100% electric version (like the DS3 Crossback) with a range of 340km.

This electric version will become a new competitor for the future Renault Zoe scheduled for autumn 2019, since the Renault Clio does not have a 100% electric version.

The Peugeot 208 will continue to be manufactured at the Slovak site in Trnavaand Kenitra (Morocco).

2019 Geneva MotorShow - Mazda
Mazda 3 III

Mazda could introduce the new generation of its C-segment sedan, the Mazda 3, which remains one of the two best-selling models of the brand.

But in the past two years, the Mazda 3 sales have dropped  significantly, from 450,000 units in 2016 to 350,000 in 2018, which decided the manufacturer to replace this model launched in 2013 with a new model with an avant-garde style, allowing the model to go out of  fashion very slowly.

Mazda still does not use hybrid and electric powertrains, despite the fact that the manufacturer had been a pioneer in rotary engine technology.

Mazda CX30

Mazda presents a new SUV that fits between the CX3 and the CX5, but curiously is called CX30, perhaps to formalize the future names of the SUV range of the Japanese manufacturer (CX20, CX30, CX40, CX50).

The new Mazda CX30 becomes a new competitor for the Nissan Qashqai (which will be renewed in 2020), but also for Renault Kadjar, Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland or Citroen C5 Aircross.

The Mazda CX30 will be manufactured at the Japanese Hofu site, at a rate of 200,000 units per year according to Inovev.

The engines of the CX30 are taken from the CX3 and CX5.
