Its lineup, still under development, currently comprises seven different models. For the 2026 Beijing Motor Show, Xpeng is expected to unveil its new high-end SUV, the GX, whose styling departs from previous models and draws closer to the lines of the Range Rover, which it intends to compete with. Measuring 5.27 meters in length, the GX will be available as a fully electric vehicle or as a REEV (extended-range electric vehicle) based on a 1.5-liter engine.

Annual volumes that can be expected in China: between 50,000 and 80,000 units

Context

Japanese automaker Nissan, which has been present in China since the early 2000s through its partnership with Dongfeng , has seen its sales gradually decline since 2019. Its production volume in China has fallen from 1,308,000 units in 2019 to 1,106,000 in 2021, 738,000 in 2023, and 629,000 in 2025 (a 52% decrease in six years). To try and revive its fortunes, Nissan is expected to unveil the new NX8 SUV at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show. This SUV, positioned in the most popular segment in the Chinese market, the D segment, officially launched this month and offers both electric (BEV) and range-extended electric (REEV) powertrain options. The NX8 is 4.87 m long, 1.92 m wide and 1.68 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.92 m. The NX8 is the third model in the N series that Dongfeng Nissan has introduced to the Chinese market, following the all-electric N7 sedan and the N6 plug-in hybrid sedan.
Beijing Motor Show Auto China 2026: Mercedes

Mercedes C-Class EV
• D-segment sedan / BEV
• Expected annual global volumes: 90,000, including 40,000 in China
Mercedes GLB EV
• C-segment SUV / BEV
• Expected annual global volumes: 100,000, including 70,000 and 20,000 in China

Context

German automaker Mercedes, which has been producing cars in China since the early 2000s through its local partner BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation), is expected to unveil its new C-Class Electric sedan at the Beijing Motor Show. This new model will not replace the current internal combustion engine C-Class launched in 2021, but will be added to the existing lineup. Information regarding the new C-Class Electric will be released at the opening of the show. Mercedes is also expected to present the GLB Electric SUV, which was unveiled in Europe a few months ago. Both models will be produced locally to meet domestic demand, in addition to those produced in Europe for the Chinese market. Mercedes has seen a gradual decline in sales in China since 2022, with the German brand's production volume (excluding Smart) falling from 644,000 units in 2022 to 641,000 in 2023, 596,000 in 2024, and 470,000 in 2025.
Mercedes must therefore try to revive its sales in China to maintain its market share in the country, and the launch of new mid-range electric models seems entirely relevant in a market that favors purchases of mid-range and often electrified vehicles. The share of BEVs sold in China reached 28% in 2025 and even 29% in the first quarter of 2026.
Beijing Motor Show Auto China 2026: NIO

Annual volumes that can be expected in China: less than 10,000 units

Context

The Chinese carmaker NIO was founded in 2016, but its first commercially available model dates back to 2018. NIO designs, manufactures, and markets premium electric vehicles. NIO has also ventured into the battery market. NIO operates a battery swapping system with over 1,500 stations in China, enabling the rapid replacement of a depleted battery with a charged one, rather than recharging the vehicle at a charging station, which can take many hours. Despite this technological advantage, NIO has not managed to outsell its main competitors. The current lineup consists of seven different models. The NIO brand has been steadily progressing since 2018. Its production volume in China has increased from 11,348 units in 2018 to 20,565 in 2019, 43,728 in 2020, 91,429 in 2021, 122,486 in 2022, 160,038 in 2023, 221,970 in 2024, and 326,000 in 2025. The brand is expected to unveil its new large SUV, the ES9, at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show, which will crown the range of this carmaker specializing in electric vehicles. This is one of the many large SUVs recently offered by most Chinese carmakers, styled after the Range Rover. It is also equipped with rear-wheel steering technology, giving this large SUV the turning radius and agility of the Firefly EV, NIO's smallest model with a length of only 4.00 m.
