Sales of light vehicles in Europe may increase by 2% in 2026 and production by 2.8%
- European car market (30 countries = EU + UK + Switzerland + Norway) Passenger cars + Light utility vehicles: Registration figures show 15.1 million vehicles sold in Europe in 2025, compared to 14.95 million in 2024, representing an increase of 0.8% (+2.3% for passenger cars and -8.9% for Light utility vehicles).
- For 2026, the European car market (passenger cars + Light utility vehicles) is expected to remain broadly stable, with slight growth driven almost exclusively by the rise of electric vehicles, while internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid volumes stagnate or decline. Therefore, no real rebound is expected, but with a profound restructuring of powertrains (BEVs could represent 25% of the European market in 2026 compared to 20% in 2025), accompanied by a modest recovery in the light commercial vehicle market. Inovev forecasts a small increase in the European market for passenger cars and Light utility vehicles, to 15.37 million units, representing a modest increase of 2%.
- European automotive production (30 countries = EU + UK + Switzerland + Norway) Passenger cars + Light utility vehicles: Inovev estimates 13.5 million vehicles produced in Europe in 2025, compared to 14.12 million in 2024, representing a decline of 4.4%, while the European passenger car + light commercial vehicle market grew by 0.8%. This discrepancy is explained by the fact that imports increased, especially from China, while exports decreased, primarily to China and the United States.
- Inovev's forecast for 2026 remains at +2.8%, projecting 13.88 million units produced in 2026. This volume includes the start of production by Chinese brands in Europe.

- Based on production figures calculated for the first 11 months of 2025, Inovev estimated the production volume of each model worldwide for the entire year. Here is the Top 20 by model (passenger cars + light utility vehicles) in the world, were 92 million vehicles have been produed last year, a 1% increase compared to 2024.
- The Tesla Model Y (D-segment SUV) remains the most produced car in the world in 2025, despite a serious drop of 180,000 units compared to 2024, thus falling to one million units produced in 2025.
- The Ford F-Series (standard pickup) is the second most produced vehicle in the world in 2025, with just over 900,000 units produced (-30,000 units compared to 2024).
- The Toyota RAV4 (D-segment SUV) is the third most produced vehicle in the world in 2025, with just over 800,000 units produced, down from 2024 (-180,000 units).
- The Chevrolet Silverado (standard pickup) takes fourth place in 2025, with a stable production volume of around 625,000 units produced last year.
- The world's first production sedan remains the Toyota Corolla (C-segment sedan), in fifth position, with just under 600,000 units produced last year (-120,000 units).
- Three Toyotas are among the top six models projected for global production in 2025, with the Toyota Hilux pickup truck ranking sixth in the Top 20, boasting a sales volume close to that of the Corolla. This is somewhat expected, as Toyota has been the world's leading automaker for the sixth consecutive year.
The Ford F-Series is the most produced vehicle in the USA by 2025
- 说明
The Ford F-Series is the most produced vehicle in the USA by 2025
- Based on production figures calculated for the first 11 months of 2025, Inovev estimated the production volume of each model worldwide for the entire year. Here is the Top 20 by model (passenger cars + light utility vehicles) for the United States, which produced 10.5 million vehicles last year, representing a decrease of nearly 4% compared to 2024. The US is not yet benefiting from the relocation of certain models produced in Mexico or Europe. These relocations – if they actually take place as several carmakers have announced – are not expected to be effective until 2026, 2027, or even 2028.
- The Ford F-Series pickup truck (available in several sizes) remains by far the most produced model in the United States, as it has been for many years. Its production volume will slightly exceed 900,000 units in 2025, with half in the standard size and the other half in the larger size.
- The Ford F-Series (which has also been the best-selling model in the United States for several decades) far surpasses the Tesla Model Y (D-segment SUV), Toyota Camry (D-segment sedan), Ram Pick-up (standard pickup), Chevrolet Silverado (standard pickup), and Jeep Grand Cherokee (E-segment SUV). These models each have production volumes of around 300,000 to 400,000 units.
- SUVs remain the most present models in the 2025 US Top 20, with 11 SUVs (Tesla Model Y, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Honda CRV, Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler, Chevrolet Traverse, Hyundai Tucson, Mercedes GLE, Ford Escape, BMW X5, Nissan Rogue), 5 Pick-ups (Ford F-Series, Ram pickup, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra) and 4 sedans (Toyota Camry , Tesla Model 3, Toyota Corolla, Honda Accord).
The Toyota RAV4 is the most produced car in Japan by 2025
- 说明
The Toyota RAV4 is the most produced car in Japan by 2025
- Based on production figures calculated for the first 11 months of 2025, Inovev estimated the production volume of each model worldwide for the entire year. Here is the Top 20 by model (passenger cars + light utility vehicles) for Japan, which produced 8.3 million vehicles last year, a figure that has remained stable compared to 2024.
- The Toyota RAV4 (D-segment SUV) remains the most produced car in Japan in 2025, with a volume of 400,000 units produced last year, a very slight increase compared to 2024.
- Toyota's SUV outperforms Mazda's CX-5 (a D-segment SUV) and Subaru's Forester (also a D-segment SUV), both of which sell fewer than 300,000 units. It's worth noting that the strong performance of these two SUVs is due to their high export volumes, especially the Mazda CX-5 (Mazda now has virtually no factories outside Japan).
- These three SUVs outperform the Toyota Corolla (C-segment sedan), which was once the leader in Japanese production, and the Honda N-BOX Kei-Car (A-segment sedan), which was the best-selling car in Japan in 2025.
- It should be noted that the Honda N-BOX is not exported, while the four models that precede it in terms of production are widely exported, explaining the particularity of seeing the Honda N-BOX only in fifth position in terms of production.
- Of the 20 most produced cars in Japan in 2025, 9 are Toyotas, 2 are Daihatsu, and 2 are Lexus, totalling 13 models from the Toyota group, which clearly demonstrates its dominance in the Japanese automotive industry. It's worth noting that there are no fully electric vehicles in Japan's top 20.
The Tesla Model Y is still the most produced car in China in 2025

The Tesla Model Y is still the most produced car in China in 2025
- According to the final production figures for 2025, China produced 30,269,903 passenger cars last year, compared to 27,476,886 in 2024, representing an increase of 10.2%, a growth much greater than that recorded in the two major automotive production regions, Europe and the United States.
- The Tesla Model Y (D-segment electric SUV) remained the most produced car in China in 2025 (540,000 units), despite a 3% decrease in its production volume compared to 2024 (-16,000 units ). The BYD Seagull (B-segment electric sedan), with 527,000 units produced in 2025, secured second place, thanks to an increase of 47,000 units compared to 2024.
- In third position, we note the presence of the GeelyXingyuan(electric B-segment sedan) which made a spectacular breakthrough, with 486,000 units produced, representing an increase of 424,000 units compared to 2024.
- In fourth position, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV (A-segment electric sedan) was produced at 446,000 units in 2025, and practically doubles its 2024 volume (+220,000 units).
- Four electric cars therefore dominate the top four places in Chinese car production. Eight BYD models feature in the China 2025 Top 20, demonstrating the brand's clear dominance in the Chinese market and in terms of production. Also included are three Geely models, two Chery models, two Tesla models, and two VW models.
