The Opel factory in Tichy has started manufacturing PSA's EB engine
- Since the 1960s, Opel has had several engine plants in Europe, including the Polish Tichy plant, which in recent years has been manufacturing the 1.7 diesel engines mounted on all its models.
- In view of the drop in diesel car sales in Europe and the takeover of Opel by the PSA Group in 2017, production at the Tichy plant had fallen in recent years. It could have been closed if PSA had not decided to reassign it to the manufacture of small-displacement PSA-origin petrol engines to be fitted on all future Opel models, mainly the Corsa, Combo, Mokka and Astra.
- The engines newly manufactured from 2019 in the Tichy plant are 1.2 Turbo PureTech 3 cylinders (code EB2) already installed on the Citroën C3 and Peugeot 208, and manufactured mainly at the Douvrin site in France, whose production capacity is close to saturation.
- Production capacity at Tichy will be 460,000 engines per year, corresponding to half of the Opel and Vauxhall vehicles manufactured by PSA each year, which means that one Opel/Vauxhall out of two will be equipped with this EB2 engine.
- 3.8 million units of this EB2 engine have already been produced worldwide, including 2.8 million in Europe, mainly in Douvrin. It could also be produced in the future in Kenitra (Morocco) and Szentgotthard (Hungary).
