The US market remains negative over the first nine months of 2017
- The US automotive market recovered well in September 2017 (+ 6.3%) but it remains slightly negative on the cumulative first nine months of 2017 (-1.7%).
- Deliveries were made mainly in the light trucks category (pick-up trucks, SUVs, minivans). They increased by 14.7% in September (whereas they had increased by only 3.7% over the fist 8-month period of 2017).
- Deliveries in the passenger car category continued to decline in September (-6.4%), but improved compared to the first 8-month period of 2017 (-12.0%).
- Over the first nine months of 2017, light trucks accounted for 64% of sales in the US market, compared with 60% for the same period in 2016. At the same time, passenger car sales fell from 40% to 36% of sales.
- It is difficult to say today whether the US market will be up or down over the whole year, as the last three months will be decisive. Indeed, they could either follow the September trend or return to the pace observed in the first eight months.

China is establishing a quota of electrified vehicles for OEMs producing in the country
- Details
China is establishing a quota of electrified vehicles for OEMs producing in the country
- China has confirmed that car manufacturers will have a mandatory quota for production and sales of alternative energy vehicles (mainly hybrid and electric) starting in 2019, one year later than originally planned. This quota project was unveiled by the Chinese government in June 2017, and was to be implemented from 2018.
- Although postponed by one year, the principle of these quotas remains unchanged. Each alternative-energy vehicle produced and sold in China will represent a number of credits (higher for electric models than for hybrid models) and each manufacturer will have to accumulate 10% of credits on total sales in 2019, then 12% in 2020 and so on.
- OEMs who do not meet these quotas will have to buy excess credits from other manufacturers or pay fines. Clearly, this policy requires manufacturers in China to produce more and more hybrid and electric vehicles (nearly 10% of their sales in 2019, 12% in 2020, 20% in 2025 and 30% in 2030).
- High-volume manufacturers, such as Volkswagen and GM, will be particularly vulnerable to these new quotas,, as they will have to produce nearly 400,000 hybrid or electric vehicles by 2020 and three times more by 2030.
- Initially, the carmakers should have had an 8% quota on their sales in 2018, but the car industry has managed to postpone the quota application date by one year.

Inovev expects sales volumes of 50,000 units per year for the Kia Stinger
- Kia has created a more upmarket model, the Stinger sedan, from the Optima sedan taking the general line, and practically the same dimensions of the Optima (length: 4.83m, width: 1.87m, height: 1.40m).
- The difference with the Optima is mainly under the hood, with a range of high performance engines available.
- It is possible to have a 4 cylinders 2.0 turbo 255hp petrol engine, a V6 3.3 biturbo 370hp petrol engine, or a 4 cylinders 2.2 200hp diesel engine, which is already mounted on the Sorento.
- No Kia brand model to date has displayed such high power, the Optima offering only engines with a power between 140hp and 245hp.
- With the Stinger, Kia targets the Audi A7, Mercedes CLS, Jaguar XF, Volkswagen Arteon, ie the most dynamic models of the E segment (Optima is D segment).
- The Stinger will be marketed mainly in South Korea, the United States and Europe.
- Inovev expects a volume of sales of 50,000 units per year from the Stinger, all produced in South Korea. Even though the production volume of the Kia brand has stagnated globally for two years, the manufacturer does not aim for volumes for this model but rather the desirable image that the Stinger could convey.
