In the first half of 2021, the NAFTA production remains down 20% compared to 2019
- American automobile production (North America and South America) reached a volume of 8,237,621 units (passenger car – PCs & light utility vehicles - LUVs) in the first half of 2021. This figure represents an increase of 30.9% compared to in the first half of 2020, but a decrease of 20.3% compared to the first half of 2019 and a decrease of 22% compared to the first half of 2018.
- Of this total, the NAFTA region (USA-Mexico-Canada) produced 7,000,257 units, including 4,786,570 for the USA, 1,624,537 for Mexico and 589,150 for Canada. The NAFTA region therefore produced almost as many vehicles as the European Union (7,568,643 units). It increased by 26.5% in the first half of 2021 compared to the first half of 2020, but remains down 20% compared to the first half of 2019.
- South America, which represents only 1,237,364 units out of the total of the two Americas, or 15% of this total, has progressed much more than the NAFTA region as Brazil increased by 50.7% in 2021 and the Argentina by 125.4% but these two countries had fallen more in 2020, due to greater difficulties linked to the coronavirus crisis.
- If we compare passenger cars to LUVs, the two Americas produced 5,857,767 passenger cars in the first half of 2021 against 4,636,163 in the first half of 2020 (up 26.3%) and 2,379,854 LUVs against 1,658,048 in first half of 2020 (up 43.5%), LUVs representing 28.9% of the total. The share of LUVs produced in the two Americas is higher than in Europe, because in addition to vans, there are also a large number of pick-ups, which are rather rare on the European market.

- Asian automobile production reached a volume of 23,212,292 units (passenger car – PCs & light utility vehicles - LUVs) in the first half of 2021. This figure represents an increase of 27.6% compared to the first half of 2020, but a slight decrease 3.6% compared to the first half of 2019 and a decrease of 12.2% compared to the first half of 2018.
- Of this total, China produced 12,569,866 units, or 54% of the Asian production. It increased by 24.3% in the first half of 2021 compared to the first half of 2020, and by 3.6% compared to the first half of 2019. It is one of the rare countries to have seen its production increase in 2021 compared to 2019. The share of the Chinese production has therefore increased again this year, to 31% of the worldwide production. According to the current Chinese production growth, this share will increase further in the coming months and probably the next few years.
- In Asia, China is ahead of Japan (4,213,590 units), India (2,230,074), South Korea (1,814,146) and Thailand (844,601), especially with the production of pick-ups.
- If we compare PCs versus LUVs, Asia produced 18,582,736 PCs in the first half of 2021 (up 28.4% over 2020) and 4,629,556 LUVs (up 24.7% over 2020), LUVs representing 19.9% of the total Asian production, an intermediate level between that of Europe (13.6%) and the two Americas (28.9%). Thailand and its high production of pick-ups explains this rather high rate.

The Citroën Product Plan for 2021-2026
- The Citroën brand (Stellantis group) has communicated its product plan until 2026. Inside this group, this brand intends to position itself in the entry-level mainstream market, such as Fiat and Skoda.
- For 2021, Citroën has announced the restyled versions of the C3 Aircross(B-segment) and C5 Aircross(C-segment). The actual launch of the D-segment C5 X (produced in China) will be implemented from fall 2021.
- For 2022, the carmaker is planning the restyling of its Berlingo(N1-1 segment) and Jumper (N1-3 segment) utility vehicles.

- In 2023, the Citroën C4 Aircross(C-segment) should be launched, which, as its name suggests, will be part of the range between the C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross. It will be a crossover based on the C4 sedan, somewhat on the model of the Peugeot 308 crossover to be launched in 2022.
- The end of the year 2023 should mark the arrival of the new generation of the C3 (B-segment) and its electric version, on the new STLA Small platform that it should inaugurate two and a half years before the Peugeot 208. It will be the first time that the C3 will be available in a 100% electric version.
- The Citroën C3 Aircross and Citroën C5 Aircross will be renewed in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
- For the moment, no announcement concerning a model which would replace the small C1 (A-segment) removed from the range during the 2021 summer, while Peugeot will indeed offer a BEV which will replace the small 108 (A-segment).

- Global automotive production reached a volume of 41,071,057 units (passenger car – PCs & light utility vehicles - LUVs) in the first half of 2021, compared to 31,860,525 in the first half of 2020. This volume represents an increase of 28.9% compared to the first half of 2020, but a decrease of 11.8% compared to the first half of 2019 and an even greater drop of 17.4% compared to the first half of 2018.
- Of this total, China produced 12,569,866 units (31% of the global production), ahead of the European Union with 7,568,643 units (18.5%) and the NAFTA region with 7,000,257 units. (17%). These three regions alone account for two-thirds of global automobile production.
- If we compare PCVs to LUVs, the world produced 32,418,294 PCs in the first half of 2021 (up 28.4% over 2020) and 8,652,763 LUVs (up 30.9% over 2020), LUVs representing 21% of the total production.
- The Toyota group remains the world's leading carmaker in 2021, with 5,190,953 light vehicles produced, far ahead of the Volkswagen group (4,301,542 units), the Renault-Nissan group (3,580,305), the group Stellantis (3,523,785), the Hyundai-Kia group (3,318,500) and the GM group (2,682,059).
- Compared to 2020, the GM group falls from fourth place to sixth, while the Stellantis group did not yet exist in 2020, but the addition of PSA and FCA gave a volume corresponding at the time to the fifth largest carmaker in the world. Behind the GM group are the Honda group (2,093,395) and the Ford group (1,802,792).

The Peugeot product plan for 2021-2026
- The Peugeot brand (Stellantis group) has communicated its product plan until 2026. This brand is positioned within the group as a main stream brand like Opel and Vauxhall. In the Stellantis group's hierarchy of brands, Peugeot therefore sits between Citroën-Fiat on the one hand and Alfa-Roméo-Lancia-DS on the other.
- In 2021, the lion brand plans to launch the station wagon version of the Peugeot 308 (C-segment) when the sedan version was presented in the first half of this year.
- The year 2022 will be marked by the facelift of the Peugeot 508 (D-segment), as well as the facelift of the Partner / Rifter(N1-1 segment) and Boxer (N1-3 segment) light utility vehicles. The Expert (N1-2 segment) is still too recent to be renewed.
- 2023 will be the launch year of the future Peugeot 3008 (C-segment) and 5008 (D-segment) SUVs, which will inaugurate the new STLA Medium platforms, electrified platforms that will be designed to equip models with electric engines and batteries. In 2023, the facelift of the current Peugeot 208 (B-segment) and 2008 (B-segment) is also planned, as well as the launch of the 100% electric version of the Peugeot 308 (C-segment) still equipped with the old EMP2 platform.
- In 2025, the e-1008 (A-segment) model is expected to arrive from South America, to replace the Peugeot 108 which was discontinued during the 2021 summer. The Peugeot 308 will be facelifted the same year.
- Finally in 2026, the new generations of Peugeot 208 and 2008 will be launched on the STLA Small platform inaugurated at the end of 2023 by the Citroën C3. Their electric versions will be launched at the same time.
