Fiat will rebuild its range with its own platforms
- For several years, the Fiat brand has focused on the A segment, with two model families, one consisting of the 500 and the other consisting of the Panda. The Italian brand, once one of the first in Europe in terms of sales, has gradually abandoned the F-segment (Fiat 130), the E-segment (Fiat Croma), the D-segment (Fiat Tempra) and the B-segment (Fiat Punto). ). Fiat had a significant market share in most of these segments, especially in the B. In the C-segment, the Fiat Tipo has a small market share compared to the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, Peugeot 308, Renault Megane and Opel Astra . So there remains the A-segment with the Fiat 500 and Panda, even if the 500L and 500X derivatives are rather to be considered as B-segment models due to their dimensions (but whose market share is very low compared to the old Punto).
- According to Fiat, the Panda will become a family, just like the 500 (500, 500C, 500 Electric, 500L, 500X). In addition, the Panda family will return to the B-segment in 2022, in order to note compete the 500, (the 500L and 500X are planned to disappear). The future Panda will be based on the Centoventi concept and will be available in an electric version, like the 500.
- The wish of the Fiat management is also to apply the Centoventi concept to the C and D segments. The Fiat range will thus be completely rebuilt after its partial destruction under the Marchionne era.
- It is only after this new generation of 500 and Panda that the PSA and Fiat groups will share their platforms and engines, that is to say after 2022.

The Japanese market shrinks by 20.1% in the first half of 2020
- The Japanese automobile market for passenger cars fell 20.1% in the first 6 months of 2020, compared to the first half of 2019, due to the coronavirus crisis. The Japanese auto market had already suffered a decline of 14.1% in the first four months of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019.
- The month of June recorded a decline of 22.6%, which was still significant, but well below the drop of 46.7% in May and 30.4% in April. The months of January, February and March were much better with decreases of -12.1%, -9.8% and -8.9% respectively. The first three months of 2020 took advantage of the fact that lockdown had not yet taken place, for the population, for factories for dealerships in Japan.
- As for imports, they have not played a significant role since for the past thirty years, the share of imports in Japan has fluctuated between 5.5% and 6.5% and therefore remain today at a very low level. Japan is one of the countries where the percentage of imports remains the lowest.
- The Japanese market decline is expected to be around 10% to 15% for the year as a whole.

Inovev forecast 100,000 units per year of the new Citroën C4
- Citroën has unveiled its new C segment sedan which will replace the C4 and C4 Cactus from January 2021. The new model called C4 therefore mixes the style of these two cars, the sedan style and the SUV style, which gives it a very personal style. According to the carmaker, the choice of the body style corresponds to a crossover choice, making it possible to attract both sedan and compact SUV customers. The new C4 will be produced at the Villaverde site (Spain) as the C4 Cactus. This site is a former Barreiros site, which became Chrysler Spain in 1970 then Talbot in 1979 and finally a PSA site in 1987.
- The new C4 is based on the CMP platformused on the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa of B-segment, and not on the EMP2 platform of the C-segment Peugeot 308 and Citroën C5 Aircross. This is why the C4 is available in petrol version, diesel version and 100% electric version, which allows the CMP platform. The C4 receives the 1.2 liter 3-cylinder petrol (99hp, 128hp and 153hp), the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel (101hp) and the electric motor already fitted to the Peugeot e-208, e-2008 and Opel e-Corsa. The batteries capacity allows a range of 300 km according to the WLTP cycle.
- The e-C4 should cost 10,000 euros more than the C4 petrol, but with the government subsidy for plug-in cars, its price should be fairly close.
- Inovev forecasts a volume of 100,000 units per year for the new Citroën C4 produced in Villaverde. The C4 competes with the VW Golf, Ford Focus, Opel Astra, Renault Mégane, Peugeot 308, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Hyundai i30 and Kia XCeed.

New models planned for the European market during the second half of 2020
- 2020 will be a year without the Paris Motor Show, however the second half of the year will, nevertheless, a period when many important automotive novelties for the European market will be launched.
- After the launch last year of models with very high production volume, such as the VW Golf or the Renault Clio, this second half of 2020 sees the appearance of low volume (16 new products) or medium volume (9 new models) models. Only the new Dacia Sanderowill be one of the high volume production models.
- Among the 26 new models counted which will start production during this second half of the year, 12 are SUVs, meaning 46% of all new models. 10 are sedans, 3 are Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) and 1 is convertible. No minivans are planned.
- Of the 26 new products counted, 15 are from the C-segment , 5 are from the B-segment , 3 are from the D-segment, 2 are from the E-segment and 1 is from the F-segment. The C-Segment alone represents 58% of all novelties listed.
- There are 9 cars only available in a 100% electric version (BEV), i.e. a third of the new models. 4 thermal cars will be also available in 100% electric versions. These two types of cars therefore represent half of the new products, which has never been seen before. There are 6 thermal cars available in hybrid or plug-in hybrid. Novelties which will be available in BEV or hybrid version are therefore 19 out of 26.

Inovev forecasts 500,000 units per year of the new Nissan X-Trail

Inovev forecasts 500,000 units per year of the new Nissan X-Trail
- Nissan currently has several SUVs in its range, spread over different segments. Thus the Japanese carmaker markets the Juke (B-segment), the Qashqai (C-segment) known in North America under the name Rogue Sport, the X-Trail (D-segment) known in North America under the name Rogue, the Pathfinder (E-segment) and Murano (E-segment). In certain markets, Nissan also distributes the Kicks (B-segment) and the Terrano(C-segment).
- The X-Trail (Rogue) has so far represented the largest production volume with a total of nearly 900,000 units produced in 2017, but sales of the model collapsed in 2019 with only 443,000 copies, which represents a fall of 50% in two years. Such a fall seems to be part of the current difficulties of Nissan. The Japanese carmaker will try to boost sales of the model by replacing it with a new generation that has just been unveiled on the American market, but which will also be marketed in Europe in the same form in a few months.
- 4 cm shorter than the old generation, the new X-Trail has a 2.5 liter petrol of 180 hp for the American market, but it will use a 1600 diesel of 130 hp and a 2000 diesel of 177 hp on the European market.
- The X-Trail will not be produced on the Sunderland (United Kingdom) plant as initially planned, but on the Kyushu (Japan) plant. Inovev forecasts 500,000 units per year of the new X-Trail (including the Rogue). The trend for large SUVs with thermal engines is likely to be declining and the X-Trail will not return to the levels known between 2015 and 2018.
