Argentine Automotive Market (PC+LCV) in 2016
The Argentine automotive market (PC + LCV) is on the rise again   in 2016 (+ 7%), after falling in 2014 and 2015. The Argentine market reached almost 675,000 sales in 2016, compared with 630,000 in 2015. This level remains well below that of 2013, which peaked at 940,000 units.

Most major manufacturers saw their sales increase in 2016, with notable exceptions such as  Volkswagen.  Volkswagen, however remains market leader  (110 00 units – 4.7%) outdistancing Renault-Nissan (104 000 units , +34,8%), GM-Chevrolet (97,000 units , + 19.7% ),   Ford (88,000 units + 1.9%), PSA (84,000 units   + 34.8%), FCA (76,000 units , + 11.8%) and Toyota (74,000 units , + 18.8%). These seven manufacturers account for 94% of the Argentine market. The other manufacturers are far behind, like Daimler (12,000 units  + 2.6%) or Honda (10,000 units , + 85.6%).

The top ten models in 2016 were the Toyota Hilux pick-up (31,000 units), Fiat Palio (27,000), VW Gol (26,000), Renault Clio (24,000), Toyota Etios (23,000) Chevrolet Classic (22 ,000) Ford Focus (21,000), Peugeot 208 (19,000) Ford Fiesta (18,000),  and VW Amarok pick-up (17,000) ie  essentially  segment B sedans and pick-ups.

Turkey Automotive Market (PC+LCV) in 2016
The Turkish car market (PC + LCV) remained at the same level in 2016 as in 2015. Sales in Turkey were slightly lower than  one million units  (984,000 units in 2016 vs  968,000 units in 2015). According to Inovev, the Turkish market  should fall by nearly 5% in 2017 to 940 000 units.

Many  manufacturers saw their sales increase in this market between 2015 and 2016, with notable exceptions for Ford, FCA, PSA and BMW. Volkswagen Group  remains in  the lead (207,000 units  + 3.8%), despite the fact that it  does not manufacture any vehicles in Turkey, unlike the following four manufacturers: Renault-Nissan (201,000 units , + 6.8%) Ford (110 000 units , -7.6%), FCA (109,000 units -4.3%) and Hyundai-Kia (71,000 units  + 0.7%). These five manufacturers account for 70% of the Turkish market (21% for Volkswagen, 20% for Renault-Nissan, 11% for Ford, 11% for FCA and 7% for Hyundai-Kia).

The top ten models on the Turkish market in 2016 were Fiat Tipo (38,000 units), Toyota Corolla (33,000), Opel Astra (32,000), Renault Clio (31,000), Ford Transit Courier(30, 000) , VW Passat (29,000), VW Polo (28,000), Ford Transit (27,000), Fiat Doblo (26,000) and Renault Symbol (25,000). Tipo, Clio, Transit Courier, Transit, Doblo and Symbol are manufactured in Turkey. Imports account for more than 68% of the Turkish market.

Electrical Vehicle Sales in Europe in 2016 by Country
The United Kingdom is the leading country in terms of electrified passenger cars, in particular thanks to a strong demand for hybrid models (HEV and PHEV). This market totals 87,000 sales of electrified vehicles in 2016, against 71,000 in 2015.

France is in second place, with 80,000 sales in 2016 compared with 79,000 in 2015, although the electric models (BEV) are somewhat successful (notably thanks to the Renault Zoé, which has 12,000 sales).

Norway (62,000 sales in 2016 versus 45,000 in 2015) is third, thanks to the notable success of electric vehicles (BEVs) and rechargeable hybrids (PHEVs). This market is the leading European market for electric vehicles and the second largest European market for rechargeable hybrids.

Germany (59,000 sales in 2016 compared to 46,000 in 2015) is fourth, while it is the first for all engines combined. The German clientele still largely prefers models with thermal engines.

Italy (47,000 sales in 2016 versus 27,000 in 2015) and Spain (34,000 sales in 2016 versus 21,000 in 2015) also  score well , given the size of their market,. The Netherlands (34,000 sales in 2016 compared with 59,000 in 2015), on the other hand,  are underperforming, notably due to higher vehicle taxes.

Indian Automotive (PC+LCV) Market in 2016
The Indian automotive market continued to grow in 2016 (+ 7.1% compared with 2015). This market  reached 3.67 million units for the first time, and could  reach or even surpass 4 million units in 2017.

Many manufacturers saw their sales increase in 2016, with notable exceptions like Honda, Toyota, GM and FCA. Suzuki (Maruti-Suzuki) is still by far the leader in the Indian market, with a  share of 38%. Its sales amounted to 1,395 million units, an increase of 8.2%, which is higher than the overall market increase, demonstrating that all of its models (segments A and B) are in line with  local customer demand.

The three next largest  car makers - Hyundai-Kia (501,000 sales, + 5.2%), Tata (472,000 sales, + 5%) and Mahindra (416,000 sales, + 8.3%) – lag substantially behind . The fifth-largest, Renault-Nissan, recorded the strongest growth in the market (+ 96.2%), with 186,000 sales of which 106,000 Kwid  (while the  Tata Nano sold ten times less over  same period).

The top-selling models in the Indian market in 2016 were the Suzuki Alto (245,000 units), Suzuki Dzire (202,000), Suzuki Wagon R (173,000), Suzuki Swift (169,000), Hyundai Grand i10 ) And Hyundai i20 (122,000).

Mercedes has Regained its Position as Best Selling Premium Brand in 2016
In 2016, Mercedes was the first premium brand in terms of worldwide sales,with 2,089,000 vehicles sold, ahead of BMW (2,003,000 units) and Audi (1,871,000 units). 

Other premium brands with more than 100,000 annual salesare Volvo (435,000 units), Mini (360,000 units), Porsche (238,000 units ) and Jaguar (149,000 units ).

Expanding the scope to American or Asian   premium brands , we find Lexus (678,000 sales), Cadillac (310,000 sales), Infiniti (230,000 sales), Acura (190,000 sales) and Lincoln (130,000 sales).

Tesla, DS, Alfa-Romeo and Maserati make less than 100,000 annual sales each, as does the Korean Genesis (Hyundai-Kia Group).

In total, premium  brands sold just over 9.5 million vehicles worldwide in 2016, representing 10% of total vehicle sales last year.

Mercedes achieved 22% of world premium car sales in 2016, ahead of BMW (21%), Audi (20%), Lexus (7%), Volvo (6%), Land Rover (5%),Mini (4%)  Cadillac (3%) Porsche (2.5%), Infiniti (2.5%), Acura (2%), Jaguar (1.5%) and Lincoln (1.25%). The other Premium brands realize less than 1% of the Premium market each.

Mercedes had already been the first Premium brand in 2010, and beforehand  in  2006.
